Wrong board, loser.

It's one of those remakes to a film that really can't be improved upon.

I think that what needs to be understood about the original Ghostbusters is that it was a comedy that was in effect, shot like a horror movie, it that makes sense. Even though there are funny moments in Ghostbusters, to borrow from Doug "The Nostalgia Critic" Walker, the dialogue and character interactions were so lowkey and cynical that it would be easy to imagine people talking like that in real life. Bill Murray's character seems to be the only one who is not taking it 100% seriously (or is "in" on the joke) given his often flippant attitude.

Also, I suspect that people were upset that Dan Aykroyd was in essence, locked out of the creative process. Aykroyd brought a lot of authenticity and passion to Ghostbusters since a lot of that stuff pertaining to the paranormal, he genuinely believes in real life. She it wasn't like he was playing Dr. Ray Stantz so much that he truly was Ray Stantz. This is pretty much why he is thought of as the "heart" of the Ghostbusters.

That's kind of like how LucasFilm under the Disney regime wanted nothing to do with George Lucas (and yes, I consider Dan Aykroyd to be the George Lucas of Ghostbusters) with their Star Wars sequel trilogy.

These things must seem intelligent when you right them down.

The average person doesn't know about that though. Moviegoers HATE remakes. They love sequels, but HATE remakes. At least to any movie made after Star Wars. Star Wars started a new era where movies all look good enough to watch after that point. The effects are not that bad any time after Star Wars. So any remake feels like you are spitting on the original movie itself, not just trying to improve it technically. Remakes like Total Recall, Robocop, or GB2016 fail for that reason. Maybe other reasons, but simply being a remake of anything originally made after 1977 is reason enough to fail.

Note that I don't consider new Willy Wonka, Batman or Superman movies remakes. They aren't. They are new adaptations of an original book or comic book. A remake is when the movie was the original source material.
