1984 was such a great year for movies

The question is how many people consider Ghostbusters to be the best movie of that year? I love the movie but think I love Beverly Hills Cop just a bit better. There are so many I love from that year, you have: Beverly Hills Cop, Ghostbusters, 2010, Buckaroo Banzai, Children of the Corn, Conan the Destroyer, Dune, Dreamscape, Gremlins, Ice Pirates, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, The Karate Kid, The Last Starfighter, Neverending Story, The Natural, Nightmare on Elm Street, Once Upon a Time in America, Police Academy, The Razors Edge, Red Dawn, Revenge of the Nerds, Romancing the Stone, Sixteen Candles, Splash, Star Trek III, Starman, The Terminator and a few others I left out. I was 10 and turned 11 halfway through 84 so I had a blast with all those movies. Looking back I can't believe my parents let me watch most of those. Lol

But you could resist not answering what you thought was the best movie of that year?

reply

I could resist because it's a tough call. My four favorites are (in alphabetical order):

Cloak & Dagger
Ghostbusters
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Neverending Story

You missed 1984, that was a good movie too!

reply

Conan the Destroyer? Are you serious? That movie was not that good. Completely inferior to it's predecessor Conan the Barbarian. Also if I were to list my favorite movies of 1984, they'd be Ghostbusters, The Terminator, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. I didn't care for Temple of Doom and consider Raiders and Last Crusade superior.

That is quite a year. I just picked up The Last Starfighter on Amazon, the Arrow special edition, and looking forward to watching that. And I want to see Buckaroo Banzai and Romancing the Stoned, too.

1984 was a great year.

But check out 1986, it's even GREATER.

reply

For sure, Top Gun!

Need someone to compile a list.

AIrplane..wait, 1980, start of the decade. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines

If I only could watch movies from 1984 and 1985, I would be just fine. The movies from those two years were my childhood.

Top Secret.

It was also a great year for music & one hit wonders, TV shows, & action figures. 1984 was an anomaly.
