6 out of 10 star rating????? wtf!

this film should be at at least 9.2. how can people rate this film low? this is the best friday the 13th film.

it has the best jason, the best characters, the best funny and campy lines, the most intimidating and best looking and acting jason, the best hero in tommy jarvis at about 12 years old, the best music, the best tone, feeling, and atmosphere from the locations, and the rainy weather, the best campy atmosphere from the music, the scenery, and the rainy weather, the best kills, the best makeup effects, the best nudity, the hottest girls, the most beautiful girls, and every scene no matter how short is so comforting in a campy slasher movie way and so amazingly great and so memorable, and also every scene is necessary.

reply

Kind of formulaic.

It did have some of the best kills and characters of the series though.

reply

all the friday the 13th films are formulaic, so the point is that if the critics and film books and generally everyone celebrates the first film and says it's a classic film then the final chapter should also be praised as it's the best film in this series. and it's not just my opinion as most people everywhere say the final chapter is their favorite film in this series.

it has the best of everything, the best kills, the best and most memorable and beloved characters, the best jason, the best music, the best makeup effects, the best nudity, and it has a kind of eerie tone, atmosphere, and feeling. and it has the best campy atmosphere in this series, from the campy and funny lines of dialogue, to the campy ways the kids act, and from the locations, and the rainy weather.

another thing, for those who say about the final chapter that it has wooden acting and it doesn't have great acting, the acting needs to be not great otherwise it wouldn't be able to be a campy film which is what they set out to make and accomplished and it has to be campy for it to be the best film it can be. if the acting was great it would overshadow the campy tone, and atmosphere that they were going for so it wouldn't work.

reply

I'll go 8.7

- It has the best protagonist, IMO, in Tommy Jarvis (Corey Feldman)
- It has the best Jason, IMO, in Ted White
- It has the second best cast, IMO, after part 2. (Crispin Glover, Judie Aronson, ect.)
- It has the best kills. Jason is absolutely brutal in this one.

reply

how does part 2 have a better cast than the final chapter? when rating the friday the 13th films you have to rate them in different ways than you rate a traditional film. the reason why is they are going for a campy movie and the fun and enjoyment of funny and not funny slasher movies is in the kills, the makeup effects, the funny and campy lines, the campy characters and campy situations. also you have to rate them based on did the filmmakers accomplish what they set out to do and in the cases of the friday the 13th films they all did.

slasher movies all have a formula so are the friday the 13th films great compared to other campy slasher movies? the answer is yes and are they the best campy slasher films, the answer is also yes. so it's about expectations and comparisons. but that is not to degrade or lessen the quality of the FT13th films because they don't have to nor they should have great acting, great directing, great writing, great dialogue, and great stories because if they had any of these things then they would diminish the overall enjoyment of a funny or not funny slasher movie.

reply

I guess it's all about personal preference.

Amy Steel (Ginny) is my favorite final girl in horror history. I love that they made her smart, and inquisitive, and resourceful. I love the scene at the bar where she is drunk and pondering about the possibility that Jason is out there, and what he would be like. It amazes me that in a movie series, where the creators have basically admitted that they were ripping off "Halloween" because it was making so much money, they still managed to put a lot of thought into making great characters, and making them somewhat unique, at least for the first four.

I love the rest of the cast too. They all have a good chemistry together, and it really does feel like a real camp counselor training center. Most of them seem like really good people too, like people you wouldn't mind hanging out with, so it's more impactful when Jason starts killing them. Except for the D-Bag that is always playing pranks, you don't really want them to die.

Gotta give props for having Crazy Ralph in there as well, even though it was short-lived.

I love "The Final Chapter" cast too, and they are pretty much neck and neck with part 2. Based on personal preference though, I give part 2 the edge.

reply

yeah, every friday the 13th fan has to thank Halloween and give it it's due because without it we wouldn't have the friday the 13th series. Halloween was so successful at the box office and it created a new genre, the slasher film because it was the first film to have a formula to a slasher movie, and also it's worth noting that Halloween unlike friday the 13th which copied bay of blood and twitch of the death nerve didn't copy any movies before it.

you're right, it's interesting and commendable how unlike most characters, even final girl, heroines in slasher movies Ginny is not just smart but actually does research is well informed about the history of Jason and really takes advantage of this information to not get killed by Jason. I just found out that Amy Steel was offered a part in part 3 but declined which she regretted :(. but i don't know if i would have liked her to be in part 3 because then part 3 might be too much like part 2 you know what i mean?

i love every little thing about part 2. i love the scene in the bar with Ginny and that red haired guy(who for some reason disappeared about halfway through this film, i never understood that?). i really loved that song played in the bar which oddly became quiet when Ginny talks to the red haired guy lol(off course that is a movie thing, when people talk in a bar the music in that bar is not as loud as the people talking lol), i've always thought that is one of the best songs ever made and it's always been one of my all-time favorite songs.

i love the conversation that Ginny has with that red haired guy about Jason(his resurrection she talks about:)). i also love how the red haired guy says "i think you're drunk." that red haired guy is one of the best characters in film history. he's so lovable, so funny, and so unique, interesting, and entertaining. he's so funny with what he says and even how his voice sounds.
hey, you didn't like the prankster guy? he was awesome, he was one of the best characters in

reply

this series. he wasn't a dic# or anything. he was just a prankster but in good spirits, he never hurt anyone. i think you aren't remembering him correctly. he was Kristen Baker's characters boyfriend. all he did was use a sling and a rock to hit Kristen baker's character's ass in those amazingly sexy and hot cutoff shorts.

oh, and don't forget this series almost needs a prankster in every film, ex. the Native American dressing guy who shoots an arrow at the arrow board with the girl close to it and he acts like a Native by making Native sounds in the original, and Shelly in part 3. a good hearted prankster makes part 1 through 3 better.

see we are talking about the best part of every friday the 13th film which is the funny and lovable and unique characters played so wonderfully by every cast member.

I like all the Friday the 13th movies but no way it deserves a 9/10. I'd give them all a 6/10. They are fun but they aren't the best films ever made.

reply

you are wrong, when reviewing them you can't review them the way you review the godfather. you have to review them comparatively with other slasher movies of their kind. and in this way they are some of the best films ever made. it's not right to compare them to other kinds of films because the filmmakers didn't set out to make them like those films.

reply

Funny, I don't even like the Godfather. I do enjoy them and own them all on DVD. I do get what you mean. I have a cousin that used to be pretty snobbish and give any non drama film a 4/10 and then go on about how great A Clockwork Orange was.

reply

i'm glad you've reconsidered your view and come to the right side of reviewing and rating movies. everything the filmmakers set out to accomplish with the final chapter they accomplished at the highest level. it's the ultimate friday the 13th jason killing people in a funny, light, and campy atmosphere film. it's also the best funny, campy slasher film ever made along with sleepaway camp 2 and 3. do you agree with those 2 things?

reply

a clockwork orange is that great. it's one of the very few legendary films that truly and completely lives up to it's legendary status and no matter how many years go by it will always do this. why do you own all godfather movies if you don't really like them?

reply

You misunderstood me. I don't own the Godfather movies. I was saying I own all the Friday the 13th movies. Well except for Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X, and the remake. Also I don't like A Clockwork Orange. The ending sucked.

reply

you said this: Funny, I don't even like the Godfather. I do enjoy them and own them all on DVD. anyone who says the ending to a clockwork orange sucks doesn't have the right to rate or review movies.

Its a toss up between this and VI for best Friday sequel imo

reply

I probably like Part 3 the best. Cant put my finger on it but its got that balance between trashy and fun that I just love. 3 feels way more trashy than the previous 2. Its got a great final battle. It moves at a swifter pace especially at the start. All the characters are introduced in the first 15 mins and boom we are away. Its never boring. And Dana Kimmel although a pretty bad to average actress just has something about her you gravitate to. She definitely has on screen charisma with low acting talent to use it.

Part 4 on the last watch i kinda found it a tad boring in some places. The director was good at fleshing out the characters, the ones that could act anyway so it did have more depth to the characters overall.

reply

how could she have screen charisma with low acting talent to use it? if you have low acting talent then how can you make and have screen charisma? you're wrong about her acting ability because she's a good actress. she was so lovable in part 3, she's always been one of my all time favorite friday the 13th characters. she's definitely in the top 5. i even love her more than amy steel in part 2. part 3 is my second favorite.

if you want a trashy and sleazy friday the 13th film you have to watch part 5. this film is by far the trashiest and sleaziest film in this series. it feels like it was made by a porn director and actually i think it was because i read online danny steinman directed a porn movie before directing part 5. have you watched part 5?

reply

>if you have low acting talent then how can you make and have screen charisma?

Keanu Reeves made his career from this.

Its called a presence. Charisma. You are drawn to their on screen presence yet they cant pull of anything major. Keanu has got more nuanced of late but that comes with 30+ years in the business.

Tommys sister Trish is probably a better actress overall than Dana Kimmel but she has very little on screen presence.

Dana Kimmel is my favorite final girl but when delivering her more difficult scenes and line delivery Dana Kimmel is pretty bad but everyone forgives that down to her presence and thats why she is fondly remembered where a lot of the other girls are forgotten, I cant even remember what some of the other girls look like until I have a long think about it. And I dont even bother trying to remember their personality especially Part 5 onwards.

>if you want a trashy and sleazy friday the 13th film you have to watch part 5.

Ive seen every film multiple times since I was a kid in the 80's.

Part 5 is awful, the acting is terrible, the story is terrible, the direction is pedestrian, at least Sean Cunningham could build tension along with Joseph Zito who was very good at handling the actors and building the characters in 4.

In part 5 you got actors trying to be funny ad libbing their way through it and it just ends up weird and unfunny. Like the 2 red necks. or the girl doing bad robot dancing for no reason or singing that "ooh baby" song while on the out house shitter. No real redeeming characters apart from Redgie the Wreckless who was still pretty bad.

The director couldn't handle a camera if he tried, looked like a TV movie, no tension or suspense compared to previous films, he couldn't handle actors and he couldn't tell what was good and bad. Tommy was a disaster in that film. Unwatchable character.

And the main gripe on Part 5 was they didn't even realise they had the best most charismatic actor in the movie nay the entire series in Miguel A. Núñez Jr. and killed him while he was taking a shit. They couldn't see this guy could do something, throw the entire script out and work this guy into a bigger character.

reply

but if charisma is something that is not achieved by acting ability then how is it achieved? is it just some nebulous thing that can't be described or defined and that people either have or don't but you can't find out how it is owned by someone? everything in a performance should be something which is gained by acting ability, otherwise what is it?

keanu reeves' career is the weirdest career for an actor of all time. it's literally indecipherable and unexplainable, it defies description. his career should have ended in the mid '90s like say rob lowe's or c. thomas howell's or judge reinhold's. you take this supporting actor kind of presence with this dumb meathead, surfer dude way of talking and he immediately is either laughably bad in movies or he's blandly ok.(again he should be just a supporting actor at best)

he's such an average actor and bad actor often times that he's actually better in movies in which he says very little like the matrix and john wick. so then we are down to just one thing and that thing is he's really handsome and boyishly beautiful and so then that makes him so lovable to women and girls and that equals box office money but then one has to wonder how come other actors who were really handsome didn't have half the successful career as him though? and that is the mystery about his 30 year and still going strong career.

help me with this please, maybe you can give me all the reasons why keanu reeve's career has lasted so long?

what does an actor's looks have to do with their acting ability?

i'm glad you also grew up in the '80s like me and watched these films multiple times since you were a kid then.

im surprised since you grew up with these films that you hate part 5 because i'm the biggest fan of this series and to me this film has always been, is, and always will be one of my top favorites in this series. if you think about it, it epitomizes everything we all love about these films: it has lovable, loser characters who we knew

reply

>but if charisma is something that is not achieved by acting ability then how is it achieved?

Ask Keanu Reeves

>he immediately is either laughably bad in movies or he's blandly ok.(again he should be just a supporting actor at best)

Yet he is a leading man and people will PAY to see him.

Thats why he is a leading man.

The bean counters have done the math and Keanu Reeves will bring people to the cinema.

People will watch him.

He has on screen presence and charisma even he is barely talking.

>what does an actor's looks have to do with their acting ability?

You are ranting now. This is either way out of context or you just dont or cannot read and comprehend the English language.

I think you are referring to this "I cant even remember what some of the other girls look like until I have a long think about it. And I dont even bother trying to remember their personality especially Part 5 onwards."

Because they made such little impact on the screen I cant remember what they look like.

reply

or were growing up in school, it has a great and lovable tommy who has so much character and is so memorable, it has a great and menacing jason like character, some of the best, most fun, most innovative kill scenes, some of the best funny lines, a lot of memorable, funny, wild, and unique characters, great atmosphere and tone, great locations, and beautiful outdoor scenery, a lot of nudity which all look and feel casual, on the spot, and voyeuristic(meaning you feel like you shouldn't be there watching this and you feel like you are there),

a very naturally shot and feeling sex scene which looks and feels extremely graphic and that is what makes it so fulfilling and satisfying, a fast pace, wild scenes of depravity and debauchery at their finest, and an overall high entertainment value. above all is all the great and memorable characters. i mean this film has more memorable and unique, quirky, and lovable characters than almost any other friday the 13th film. to me the best and most important thing about this series is lovable characters. in this film you have the nerdy fat kid who is eating a candy bar and gets killed by that guy with an axe, you have the adorable and kelly bundy dyed hair, punk rock girl who does the most amazing dance ever right before getting killed, you have the black, cross between jimi hendrix and prince guy who has such a unique and cool voice and personality, you have one of the coolest kid characters ever in reggie,

you have the really hot, and adorable and irresistible and skinny girl who shows her tits, you have one of the hottest women ever who shows her big tits in an extremely hot and unforgettable sex scene outside on the grass, you have one of the best characters in movie history in john shepherd's portrayal of tommy jarvis, you have a very lovable blonde woman character who helps reggie kill the guy in a jason mask, who shows hot wet nipples through her white shirt in the rain, you have a very funny and very memorable guy in

reply

>it has a great and lovable tommy who has so much character and is so memorable, it has a great and menacing jason like character, some of the best, most fun, most innovative kill scenes, some of the best funny lines, a lot of memorable, funny, wild, and unique characters, great atmosphere and tone, great locations, and beautiful outdoor scenery, a lot of nudity which all look and feel casual, on the spot, and voyeuristic(meaning you feel like you shouldn't be there watching this and you feel like you are there),

haa haaa what a rant.

Loveable Tommy? he has no personality. He cannot act. He has zero presence.

His other film was Troll 2 where he plays the "Nooooooo"" guy. Thats his pedegree.

"you have the really hot, and adorable and irresistible and skinny girl who shows her tits"

The "its SHOWTIME!" girl? She's on screen like 5 seconds and shows her tits to a mirror for no reason and shouts to herself in a toilet.

I wont even bother acknowledging that 3 reply rant. Its a mess.

reply

a car swearing up a storm in a funny way which is one of the most memorable moments in a movie that i have ever experienced, you have a very shy and awkward and not confident boy who studders when trying to get the skinny girl to go out with him who is so relatable to me and so many other guys and is so lovable to me because he's so relatable and because his character is so flawed in a social way, he's like the ultimate nerd character who every awkward kid relates to so much,

you have exciting scenes of violence which feel so realistic and are realistic, you have two of the most memorable characters in movie history in the crazy, and extremely potty mouthed redneck mom and her stupid, slow redneck son, and you have a great chase scene at the end.

i mean what more can you possibly ask for in a friday the 13th film? weird and unfunny? what makes the characters so great in this film is exactly those off kilter, realistic, natural ways of acting. they are unique and interesting and memorable because they are so weird to the people watching this film, it's natural acting, and they are funny partly because of these strange ways of performing the characters.

what does nay mean?

reply

To Friday fans and horror fans its pretty good. To the general public, from an outside perspective they are kinda shitty or seen as trash.

So a good trashy horror film in a well covered genre like the slasher would be seen as maybe ok by the general public.

Personally if i like a film and would watch again if i had to i rate it 6, a 6 does its job, its competent but only that. 5 and under i would try not to watch it again, 5 is didnt feel it but it wasnt bad just that i didnt feel it, under that are different levels of badness. a 7 score would give something a little more than a 6, 7 is enjoyable more than competent film making. 8+ films start to get really good in terms of film making.

reply

you're wrong because the general public doesn't watch slasher films so they don't appreciate the complexities, subtleties, qualities, sensibilities of slasher films. so they won't like a slasher film because they don't like those types of films but they shouldn't be rating them based on personal preference, they should rate them based on their merits.

reply

So if you say the general public don't watch slasher films then they cant have voted on it after watching it.

IMO It got rated accordingly.

Horror films are usual voted a little less because they are trash. the majority of them are. Its when they are slightly better than trash, give some entertainment value the very large horror community remembers that and holds it up for 30 years only because its pretty good or passable, in horror, if its not awful or half decent its a great horror film. Outside of the horror community its just a trash film with bad actors, script and barely any story and anything better never gets taken seriously.

reply

you're making completely generalizations about horror movies. you're saying that on a whole and generally horror movies are less good than any other genre of movie. that's not true. there is not one genre of movie that is any less important or good than any other genre of movie.

movie genres are movie genres, and i hate that horror movies always get this unfair criticism. horror movies are not usually voted a little less because they are trash, they are incorrectly voted a little less than other movies because they have a bad reputation from incorrect critics and ratings and reviews and people don't have the patience to correctly rate and review horror movies. i mean did you know you wrote "horror films are usual voted a little less because they are trash"? you are saying most horror movies are trash.

there are not different standards in horror movies than there are in other genres of movie.

why does the general public have to watch slasher movies to have voted as many times as horror movies have been voted for on here?

and you are wrong about the rating that friday the 13th the final chapter's rating on here.

reply

c,mon a lot of horror movies are pretty bad but only still watched and have a fan base because of the genre.

How many terrible movies from 1983 do people still talk about and enjoy.

People still watch and talk about Sleepaway Camp. In general movie terms of quality its pretty bad.

>movie genres are movie genres

But most genres dont have a community like horror fans who will accept some downsides because of their love for the genre and something thats passable or has a few good parts is still talked about years later.

Nobody is going to conventions to pay for autographs of the actors from a 1983 romantic comedy that was poor in film terms.

>i hate that horror movies always get this unfair criticism.

Most of its pretty fair. Acting, direction, story, cinematography are pedestrian and sometimes awful so it gets low ratings but the horror community keep it alive because of their love for horror.

Then when we get a good one it holds its place in history and rightly so.

>there are not different standards in horror movies than there are in other genres of movie.

A lot of critics flat out dismiss formulaic horror films. Siskel and Ebert were very unfair to a lot of horror films, especially Friday the 13th series. critics and general public vote it low. And the horror community keep it alive and vote it higher.

>you are saying most horror movies are trash.

Yeh a lot of them are trash. or mediocre as films.

Whats so hard to understand that a lot of horror films have terrible acting, script, story, direction. Like Friday the 13th Part 5, yet people still watch it. Because its horror.

Only Sci Fi has a community so loyal but even sci fi fans draw the line in the sand of quality. They watch goofy 60's Star Trek but at least it has good strong characters, themes, world building and stories.

The Sci fi community rarely hold up films like Prisoners of the Lost Universe (1983), Raiders of Atlantis 1983, Strange Invaders 1983.

People keep telling you that a lot of horror films are not great and dont deserve higher votes.

Like another guy said you are ranting like a mad man.

reply

9.2? It's a formulaic slasher.

reply

all of them are.

reply

The movies are guilty pleasures, but I wouldn't say they are actually good.

6/10 sounds about right for this one

reply

you're wrong. the fact that you think 6/10 sounds about right for this one proves you know nothing about slasher films and this series.

reply

you're wrong because guilty pleasure would imply some kind of bad quality and this series is the highest quality of slasher films of their kind that has ever been made.

reply

I wouldn't put this up there with Black Christmas or Halloween.

reply

it shouldn't be because it's not that kind of slasher film. it's a campy, not scary, not meant to be scary slasher film. that's why you can't compare it to black christmas or halloween.

reply

"all slashers are formulaic but dont count my fave formulaic slasher compared to those other formulaic slashers. but im so dumb to realise they created the blueprint for slashers and part 4 did nothing other than follow a formaula of the previous friday movies that were a copy of Halloween""

You are ranting like a mad man. Halloween was not a formulaic slasher. Neither was Black Christmas.

On a movie scale Halloween is a better film the Part 4. Campy or not. Whatever your excuse is.

Halloween is considered better film making, and it is better film making. Hence the better scores all round.

fuck, i like part 4 but are you too determined to bang the drum for it and part 5 like a maniac foaming at the mouth with literally no sense in what he is talking of.

reply

i'm not talking about black christmas or halloween. i'm only tal;king about the friday the 13th films and slasher films like them.

fuck you

all campy slasher movies are formulaic.
