This is my favorite one, anyone else's?

I think somehow this is the definitive Friday the 13th, or if you like the definitive Jason Voorhees movie.
It happens in Christal Lake, it features the original Jason, the group of young victims are amongst the more likable of the series, and i find this better to have obnoxious dorks killed, the mood is great, the tone wasn't yet so tongue in cheeky like it would start to be around the 6th entry.
I like the cinematography a lot, and i find this tall not too bulky not too "rotten zombie" Jason to be one of the best.
Also Jason is still a big retarded know-no-better creature rather than the evil hulking decomposing corpse of the latter installments, and that's the better way to portray the character in my opinion.
Add to all this the last contribution to the series from effects and make up master Tom Savini (cleverly exploited to showcase even more of his creations having Feldman's character to be one latex mask skilled craftsman enthusiast) and you have what i consider the perfect recipe for the good old classic Friday the 13th movie.

My favorite is the first, probably because of the nostalgia aspect since it was one of the first horror movie I had seen( with my parents knowledge). However, this is definitely one of the best.

It's the last movie where Jason acted more human in his actions, which I prefer over Jason in the later movies. Nothing is going to stop him, of course, from killing his intended victims but there is something a little more real about him.

The Final Chapter was probably the strongest entry of the first four with Part 2 being a very close second. After that the films became something very different adding a slightly campy zombie approach that messes with the more serious/straight tone of the series' origins. I prefer to erase A New Beginning from memory. Jason Lives and The New Blood are easily the best of the later entries, as they do depict the "zombie Jason" in the best way for that approach while never really living up to the creepy revenge killer vibe of the earlier films. Six and Seven do have a slick comic book quality with colorful atmoshphere but over the top characters. Camp Crystal Lake itself looks incredible in those entries as it almost becomes a stronger character than Jason himself. Look at the smoke coming off the water into the black of night above the woods and tell me that's not great atmosphere. Some of those shots are truly creepy and rival the cinematography of even the best entries. A little too much shtick, but zombie Jason never looked better... gloves, mask, shirt, boots and weapons - all perfect. Jason Lives definitely knew what it wanted to be and didn't apologize for it. On that level both Six and Seven succeed. After that it's all down hill.

I agree with most of what you say, i also like part VI a lot, specially the whole Frankenstein resurrection of the begging.
I am very detailed when it comes to Jason , and the critic i have about the one in VI is that he looks not as tall and strong as the big dude of the final chapter.
Also the clothing isn't quite right in my opinion, it looks to tight and clean, he came out of the grave! He looks messier in the final chapter...
But yeah, a great movie with lot's of humor that work (which is tricky in a horror movie)

About 7 i can't say the same, i really can't stand the girl with mental powers...
Specially since she is complaining and moaning all thorough the movie...
I haven't seen it in a long time, the one good thing i remember is the father coming from the bottom of the lake to drag Jason out. Niche touch.

This has always been my favorite entry as well, with Ted White being my favorite Jason.

Yes, Ted White is the best definitive Jason in my opinion too.

4th is my favorite too. Best Jason, best characters, best kills, best overall dark mood. Especially when Jason is stalking Trish in the house next door. Creepy. The make up fx were insane for that time. I totally agree with all your points OP.

Nuff' said.

Insane yes! Long live Tom Savini.

Great! Now if we could get a good new edition of the whole uncut thing...!

It looks like Jason Lives was cut a lot too. There was a bootleg work print around for a while, several minutes longer.

reply

No, it's not my favorite, and I don't really think the cast were likable :/.
Still love it though!

reply

Not my favorite, Tommy got on my nerves, fortunately he got a lot better in parts 5 and 6.

reply

And which one's you guys favorite?

reply

My favorites are 3 and 1!
But I love the whole series aside from FvJ and the remake.

reply

Yep 3 and 1 are good too. I also liked FvJ a lot. Remake is rubbish.

When they wanted to end it all with Final Chapter, the love for the movie and the Jason character made the fans storm the cinemas and they were forced to keep going... it's only ironic that when they wanted to resurrect the undying monster they managed to kill it for good. A crappy movie turned out to be the silver bullet for Jason Voorhees.

6, 3, 8, 5, and X are my favorites.

And which one's you guys favorite?

Part 2 is my favorite, then 1, 3, and 4. I don’t really care about the others (though 6 is good, dumb fun—once you accept Jason as a zombie).

This is definitely one of my all time favorite (along with my pops) entries from the moment I watched it on it's cable premiere via Cinemax back in Spring 1985.

reply

The only Friday film I prefer over this one is Jason Lives, otherwise The Final Chapter is the highlight of the original four.

reply

Yes, the sixth movie is a great one... i downloaded a bootleg work-print time ago, with several more minutes and more violence. Video quality though was terrible. I wish they could release every FT13th in their unrated version...

What I love is that They uncredited the real Jason actor in this one and credited someone else.
