OK, I'll throw this out there...
On a recent repeat viewing, I got a sudden thought. Is this perhaps a Europe in which the Nazi's didn't lose WW2?
shareGood theory! Would explain the many skinheads and German city names, despite the people living there - like Osborne and Kramer - being English. I just like to think it's Europe after some natural disaster, but I never thought of it this way before.

good point, i had this thought also. something like alternative present/future. i think the last days of the world will look something like this.
