DVD availability

Would anyone else like to see this released on DVD in widescreen?

Err.. I can't seem to find it anywhere... :(

"My girlfriend always laughs during sex-no matter what she's reading."

I found the DVD at circuit city today. Only $6.99. It is the full-screen version of the film. I really enjoyed seeing this movie again, but part of the dialog was missing at the end where Rip Torn's character says "That rifle, that's the one that did it." Also, the dialog track was slightly off after that. Otherwise, a great buy. No extras on the disc. No trailer or commentary, just the movie and chapter search. Released by HBO.

We're probably never going to get a widescreen version because it was actually made for TV (HBO) and filmed with a TV screen ratio. Widescreen would literally chop off the top and bottom.

Yeah, personally I'd LOVE it. And too bad it's such an unknown film, or else asking for a 5.1 DVD release for a film with such a great soundtrack wouldn't seem unreasonable either.

Looking on the bright side, I will say I am surprised at the overall picture quality on the DVD (clear picture and bright, vibrant colors), especially for a pan & scan release. I do think though... that this release is the only one we're gonna get.

But my Dad saw it in the theater. It came on HBO a year after it's release.

A full screen version is cool with me for now. Hopefully they'll release a wide screen DVD in the future.

hbo had a film division/a production company that would produce actual movies for theaters...that kind of dried up over this past decade as their original programming came to dominance.

There's actually a UK version of the film that I ordered several years ago that's in Widescreen. Not sure why it was released Full Screen here in the US, but it did receive a brief theatrical release.

HBO also released "Split Second" on their label and it's only Full Screen, yet I caught this in its Widescreen theatrical run, too.

Is this widescreen version still available anywhere you know of? Would love to own it in widescreen.

Widescreen is avaialbe in Australia.

The VHS version of the film still might be in good shape that has the entire film.

@ rlitt_99,

That could well be what happened. Filming it in full screen and cropping the top and bottom for widescreen viewing in cinemas. This is what happened with Kubrick's 'The Shining'.

WIDESCREEN IS AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA

Region 4.

Looks so much better in Widescreen!

If anybody subscribes to HBO, they are actually showing it letterboxed on their streaming service through their website. You have to be a subscriber to watch it, but it is widescreen.
