Why would the ... care? (spoilers)

I like the movie, but I don't love it. Something's missing. One of the bigger problems I had is with the motivation of the villains. Why would the CIA (or whatever black ops agency sent Smith) care about the discovery of the assassin's corpse, money and gun. It's just like Treat and Kris say - there's nothing to tie the corpse with anything. How the hell would anyone connect the remains in the jeep and the other stuff inside with the assassination? How is multiple killing of f-ing border patrol cops, dragging military into the picture and acting all suspicious and illegal less of a sign to anyone that there's something wrong with the picture?

Talking about overkill...

It just didn't make any sense to me, that's all.

I totally agree. The more I think back on the film, the less I care for the overall story. The CONCEPT of the second shooter being found is interesting, but the way it's handled in the film comes across as though all they thought they needed was the punchline, and not the telling of the joke. Lots of plot holes abound.

I also didn't care for some of the acting at times. Treat Williams had some early scenes of overacting, and Rip Torn was bordering on a cartoon sheriff at times.

The less said about the embarrassing "summary" song over the end credits, the better.

Lol...the outro song was shamefully bad, even for the 80s.
