Do You Think This Movie Would Still Have Been As If Matthew Broderick ..

decided to do it and not drop out? When he did, they said they had to re-write the part for Matt Dillon's acting style.I'm kind of glad they did that.I can't see anyone else in this part but him.Nothing against Matthew Broderick or anything, but I just can't see him in this role.I see him more in a Ferris Bueler or Wargames role. Then again he had a different script than Matt did so who knows.Never saw the original screenplay.Would like too though.Maybe someone could put it up online.

I'm sure it would have been a fine movie -- but I never got the same sense of natural confidence from Broderick that Matt Dillon has always had -- I think Jeffrey would have been more of a smart and wise ass character rather than the kind of salt-of-the-earth guy that he ended up being in the film.

I'm sure Broderick would have been fine, but I'm glad he dropped out, because Dillon really has a huge swagger to him that is really appropriate for the role of an 18 yo who goes from a summer bagging groceries and sitting on the stoop to having the world by the tail.

by the way -- thanks for starting the thread . I had no idea that Broderick was the original Jeffrey. Cool to think about.

Yeah I agree with you 100%.This movie to me was the one that Matt Dillon out of the teen hearthrob/bad boy roles. This was the one that helped him branch out and do different types of roles. Also I don't know if you are aware of this but they tried to make a tv show out of this movie. It only lasted one pilot, but Sasha Mitchell played the Jeffrey Willis character.

Matt Dillon was so spot-on as Jeffrey that I can't see anyone but Dillon in this role.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!
