The signal "don't play that card" was the hairy dude scratching his belly, but how can he effectively signal to Phil Brody when he's sitting behind the colonel ?
I mean, he can see what the colonel needs, but how does he know what card Phil is about to play

shareI don't know if it's the same game that we play here in my country, but if there are only two players, and is the last move, I think you can possibly know what cards are missing to complete the trios or straights. That's the way I understood when the hairy dude said to Brody to come out with a 10.

I took it to mean that the fat guy would go around behind the other players and "signal" the card or cards they need. He wouldn't know what card Brody was about to play...they just showed that to heighten the drama...he was there to tell Brody what NOT to throw.
And I see no reason to suspect his entire team wasn't in on the cheat so Big Sid would signal to all of them the card(s) their opposing player needed.
