It never stated wny he would kill his family?

He did not seem like a brute or somebody who was abusive. He just seemed to be infatuated with himself. It never gave a motive in the movie about why he would kill his family? Did they just make him mad one night?

"Duh. You're the idiot. Not me."

He's a narcissist and a sociopath, they really don't need a reason. This is my personal take on him. I think as Colette kept having babies I think he felt trapped in this marriage and family life. Sociopath can't love others, it's a anti-social personality disorder. They lack emotions, they can be charmers, have tons of charisma that seem to draw others to them but are horrible manipulators. They have feelings of self grandiosity and self-important (e.g., exaggerates accomplishments, talents, skills, contacts, and personality traits to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate any real achievements. He never cried for his family. He faked it and was not very convincing. He's a pathological liar and a pretty good one at that since he fooled the Army and Colette's parents for a long time. He was deceptive, deceitful, underhanded, unscrupulous, manipulative, and dishonest. I don't think Colette had any idea of just how sick and selfish he was, but according to some he was both verbally and physically abusive to her. For her out of fear, embarrassment and shame kept that hidden from others. He would have been a horrible doctor. The only time he showed deep emotions was for himself, never for anyone else. Just my take on him as a narcissistic sociopath. These are all traits found in serial rapist and serial killers.

I think it's just as simple as: he just lost control during an argument. Of course, rather than face the consequences of that and turn himself in, he went ahead and finished off his wife and one of the girls......and then went and killed the other one.

So it's a combination of an argument, narcissism, and pure evil.
