140 a week before taxes

There is a scene where Chris tells Penn's character that he makes 140 a week before taxes. I was wondering if he meant 140 dollars a week? It seems a little low for this type government job, but maybe this was his salary before he was briefed into this secret program.

So how was it?

Maybe the buck was 10 times more valuable back then (take 30 years of inflation into account)? The sums they're taking from Russians are relatively tiny as well. I'd guess it's not because they aren't greedy but because it was a lot of money back then.

Yes if you read about these two men, you will find that the first pice of info was only worth $200.00 and after two years of spying they only made $20,000.00. Tragic.

I apologize for grammatical errors- a side effect of IMDbing on my iPhone.

Late reply but by this site ([http://www.thecostofliving.com/1974.html] the average wage in 1074 was $8031/year or $155/week. Considering Boyce was just 21 and didn't have a college degree he wasn't doing too badly.
