Started to enjoy but disturbed by the 2nd film ***spoiler alert***

****spoiler alert*****

I am a big fan of Star Wars but I had never seen these movies before, they looked like nice films to share with my 3 1/2 year old (who enjoyed the ewok cartoons.) We liked the 1st movie for the rescue story it was. But in the 2nd film I kept expecting to see the little girl reunited with her family. I admit though they implied her family had been killed, I naively assumed this was a suspense ploy (as seen in many movies) and they were captured or lost. For example they showed many characters getting shot and we see them die (even an Ewok in the 1st film, killed by rocks. We never see the family characters actually die. SO... at the end of the 2nd film, my mouth kind of dropped, followed by my daughters question "Daddy where is her mommy and daddy...?"

Hi,

I was about 7 years old when I first saw the second movie and was pretty shocked myself. The death of the parents also kind of makes saving the parents in the first movie redundant. Terak even gave me nightmares, while movies such as the Terminator or the extremely violent RoboCop were no problem at all. Though in time I did learn to like the second movie more than the first. I like the story and the characters a lot.

Though I did wonder for a long time why the family was killed. Years later an interview was held with Eric "Mace" Walker. He said that George Lucas only did the second movie for his daughter, who liked Cindel a lot. So the movie was to center around her character, it's sort of a Heidi movie. I agree they could have been reunited in the end, but I've learned to really like the characters of Noa and Teek, as well the ending as is.
