Randolph's death

Holy crud, that has to be the most bloody and gory action movie death ever. And in the end when they show him dead in the shower, his face is swollen just like a dead person would be (look at the shadow to see the curves). They must've used a dummy for that shot or something. It was disturbing.

And Randolph's death acting was incredibly disturbing. He seemed less mad that he was dying and more mad that he had been tricked!

He sure was a tough son of a bitch, wasn't he?

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

reply

Yep, He liked to spend his off hours in the filthiest dives of the barrio.

It's a very believable scene, though nowhere near as disturbing as the opening execution scene. The only problem with the scene is a terrible editing screw up. Randolph pulls and cocks out a gun when his back is to Holland, but it's cropped out. You can see the gun on the bed after Randolph gets struck in the throat with the knife.

And I love the dialogue between Holland and Randolph in the bar. It's so bad, it's hilarious!

I think Randolph's bisexuality was probably surprising at the time, but of course now people don't even blink an eye at it. But Randolph was also witness to Jorge Hidalgo's cruel murder...so he got what he deserved too!

reply

Yes, and I think they also had Claire witness the execution, and comment that she was glad that Hidalgo was dead while being disappointed that he didn't suffer more, so take away any sympathy that the view might've had for her as well. I also think she was shown to be a lesbian to diffuse any speculation that she and Molloch were incestuous together! Ironically, Joseph Maher, who played Molloch, was gay in real life. I'm not sure if Randolph really was bisexual or if he just played along as an excuse to go back to Holland's place and kill him. Nevertheless, as I often say, I love the exchange between Holland and Randolph in the bar - classic hilariously bad dialogue!

Far from the goriest, but ti was still pretty grizzly to behold.
