Can you rate a film 'no stars'?

This is one of THE WORST films I have ever seen! I was generous in giving it one star. Is it possible to go lower?

Serious? I was going to help you with a list of ALL TIME WORST MOVIE OF THE MILLENIUM but since your mind is made up, let's forget that. Anyway Electric Dreams is one of those movies made more as a feature length music video than your average "chick flick". It's a silly string of bubbly pop music videos. And since you hate it that much, it also probably means that the '80s mean nothing to you, which could mean: a. you slept through that decade, b. times were real bad for you (e.g. got majorly dumped by a cute boy)... Or it could mean you weren't even born, which means you haven't seen enough movies to know what to hate.

That said, us old foggies who loved Giorgio Moroder don't find it hard to like this film.

Is it possible you could get yourself a life? ;-D

I loved this movie when I watched it. I think I was about 15 when it came out. I think it is one of these movies that you have to see in the eighties, when it came out, to appreciate it.

I saw this at the cinema when it was released in 1984 in the UK.

I thought it was light and easy watching and bright good fun.

I was appalled at the rabid response from the British film critics. There was never any attempt by the film-makers to try to pretend it was anything than what it was.

No it wasn't Citizen Kane or Macbeth or Bergman, but it didn't try to be.

Anyway, I watched it last night for the first time in 25 years and I loved it.

And now I am an old fart !

Electric Dreams is a heartfelt little film that is very indicative of the '80s and our new journey into computers... it's a very exciting time for music, for computers, for thought, for discovering a new landscape of creativity. This movie is a little gem from a beautiful little moment in time.

A very nice response. Yes, it's a bubble of time, and for anyone not around in those early days of computers and pop music it's hard to understand what an exciting and innovative time it was.

Not saying this is a great movie, but it has its place.

Exactly, I wouldn't call it great, but it definitely has a special place in my heart. I was 11 in 1983.

I finally saw this for the first time on YouTube; I definitely remember seeing it advertised in movie listings throughout the summer of 1984. Using the excuse that one had to see this in that time to like it might be a cop-out. I've seen just about everything from the time, from the legendary and overexploited like John Hughes' stuff to the obscure like "Modern Girls" or "The New Kids", and there are good movies, decent movies, watchable movies, but "Electric Dreams" has a good idea with some annoying aspects. I wouldn't call it the worst. I never call a movie "dated" and can watch from the perspective of a time period but what ruins this is the lead character's goofiness and whining. Since this isn't a time when the computer was a part of his life like it would be now and is just an unnecessary purchase he makes for no real reason, he could have solved his problem by just unplugging and getting rid of it. I never understood why he felt the need to hide it. The computer character is like a newer Hal mixed with the WOPR's Joshua which we saw in "WarGames" the year before; the kind of character that would also be seen somewhat in "SpaceCamp" with the robot. I do miss the mystery of computers from the time when they could be plot devices without the audience knowing what they could or could not do.

It may be the worst movie you've ever seen.., but it isn't THE worst movie ever! For me, SPICE WORLD still holds that place!

"What time is Recess?"

Your question "is it possible to go lower" begs a non-PG rated answer...

This film serves like a time capsule of the '80s for us movie-computer geeks who also happen to know a bit about music.

If nothing, the film is worth watching, or listening, for Giorgio Moroder's music.
