Potential goof

I didn't get a good look at the side of the Austrian ship, but it looked like the ship's name was written in Cyrillic (i.e. Russian) letters. Since Austrians speak German, which uses the Latin alphabet, that would have been a "goof."

Did any one else see this?

reply

The Cyrillic inscription (Cyrillic is also used by Serbs, Bulgarians etc., btw) doesn't mean anything, afaik, and even contains nonexistant letters. I'd say it was intentional, adding to the irrealistic setting.

But what about the fact that the Austrians are at war with both the Serbs and the Russians? I was thinking that it might been intentional to add to the "exoticness" or "Otherness" of the Austrian ship. But it still struck me as odd since Austrians definitely did not use Cyrillic and the very people they were attacking did.

reply

It's strange but I think you are right about the "Otherness".

reply

Maybe it was along the thinking of inscribing "Ambulance" in the mirrored form for the sake of the onlookers: Drivers in front and in this case, the Cyrillic-speaking enemies.

Would you happen to have any... flan?
