scenic paintings

I'm the daughter of Italo Tomassi who was the scenic "painter" and set designer of this movie and many others Fellini's movies. I would like to know what people thinks about the work of my father in this movie, work that was completely done inside Cinecittà studios and in the old "Pantanella" factory. My father wrote a daily journal about what happened during all the time neded to complete the shoting of this movie and it would be very interesting for me to discover are the public thoughs about..

Well, I love what I've seen by Fellini (see my username). But his films are sometimes hard to find in my country (France). "E la nave va", "La città della donne", "Ginger e Fred", "Prova d'orchestra" and "Intervista" are not available. I have seen some of them years ago in a theater. But I should see them again.

I remember very well the Grand Hotel in "Amarcord", the prostitution house and the subway in "Roma". I loved also the scene in this movie when they discover ancient paintings which disappear imediately. So moving.

I liked the sea in "Casanova" (with the garbage bags) when the police arrests Casanova.

I remember something from "Ginger e Fred". I think it was near the beginning : we see lots of rubbish in the streets : and there is a poster on the wall saying "We want to keep Roma clean". I laughed when I saw this.

These films need to be released on DVD.

I just saw this film--am still under its spell. My mind bursts with questions, which is how I know I've seen a piece of art. Referring to the set design, it's very clear Fellini wanted us to know it wasn't real--that it was an enchantment, a dream of a time and space, and the sets did that quite well. The flat silhouettes of the ships with their stark smoke trails, the washed out sea all added to the sense of dreaming. The interiors were warmly colored with reds and glowing wood. Your father did a wonderful job.

There's another Fellini on now, but my brain is too full to watch another. I will have to rent it.

My wife and I were enchanted by the movie. We did not know that it was released in the 1980s until I just looked it up on IMDb. The scenic artwork strongly contributed to the wonderful experience of watching this movie. We are going to watch other movies by Fellini and your father!
