Sountrack from another movie?

I just bought "Def-Con4" from a DVD sale ($5.45... bargain) and was watching it when I noticed that some of the soundtrack sounded farmiliar. Later on, it was unmistakable that at least some music was the same music as in the American Version of "Godzilla 1985" (the one with Raymond Burr spliced in).

Has anyone else noticed this? I wonder why two movies would have the same sound-track?

Cheers

Some of that music is also in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985).

Maybe composer Christopher Young was just lazy. Or they didn't want to pay him to make more music than he did.

Often with low budget films the scores wouuld get resused, at least in part. I read an interview with Christopher Young said you could tell if they liked your music by how many movies they used it in.

When New World Pictures, the company who released Def-Con 4, received the North American distribution rights to The Return of Godzilla, they spent a lot of time editing it for American audiences. One of the edits they made was to the score, because there were a lot of scenes that had no music, which was very jarring in some cases. So, New World just took some tracks from another film in their library, in this case Def-Con 4 since Christopher Young's score for that film was very similar in tone and style to Reijiro Koroku's score for The Return of Godzilla and wouldn't stand out. Personally, I think this was a very good choice, because the score for Def-Con 4 really fits the movie well and sounds like it could be part of the same soundtrack as The Return of Godzilla's existing score.
