Not sure if he was intending to ever kill Joanna though since they switched outfits and he let her kill him. I think he was always intending for her to kill him, he wanted to save her from the life of China blue, in the end she dressed as the reverend killed him with the deadly dildo while he was China blue and then while dying he said goodbye to China blue.
