The soundtrack

The musical selections here are very interesting for a film about rural America. Instead of the standard country-western music, the soundtrack includes evocative jazz and experimental folk. I've had the soundtrack since the film was released, and it's one of the best – artists such as Mark Isham and George Winston on the Windham Hill label, which would become associated with "new age" but actually was so much broader.

Occasionally, it seemed the soundtrack was just a bit out of sync with the film's mood, particularly toward the end. Still, the music is excellent, is the film.

Any thoughts on this film's soundtrack?

I have the LP and the CD of this great film.
I love the music, it puts me to sleep.
I also noticed that on Amazon the both go for quite a lot of money. That means there are others who enjoy this great soundtrack.

Thanks for the reply! I noticed the high prices on Amazon, and I'm glad people still remember this soundtrack. I'm glad I purchased it when the film came out.

I think, anyway.

This is one of my fav. soundtracks. I was an early collector of Windham Hill music when it first appeared and bought as many albums as I could. This is one that I originally didn't have on CD and managed to finally find it a couple of years ago so I could listen to it at work and my sister loves the music as well!
Your comments on Windham Hill are spot on. I really loved the acoustical music. It has aged well and I still listen to it.

A lot of alliteration from anxious anchors placed in powerful posts!

That is great that you would be able to find the soundtrack on CD. This one seems kind of obscure in that format.

Yes it is! I got lucky one day and there was a used copy of it on Amazon.com!
