Something centering more on the club and the black performers that made it famous than a semi-fictionalized account on the dealings of the rich white folks and gangsters that just hung out there?

They could if they wanted to but Hollywood is not known to stick to historical facts. I have just read up the history online and a comprehensive documentary would do nicely for me.
