Greatest scene I've seen in a long time.

The scene when Fred Gwynne is released after being kidnapped and sees Bob Hoskins is amazing. The dialogue and business is so incredible and honest. It is a true awesome to see these two veterans work what could have been a simple scene into one that, well...gets talked about like this.

very true, i was very impressed by that scene also. bob hoskins rules in general though, he's just so lovable.
i didn't like richard gere at all in this role (generally i consider him a bad actor, just a pretty face<like what they said about him being an actor in this film> ) so i watched it for everyone else, especially bob.

Agreed! The best part of this other not that great a film.

Yeah, this film has a lot wrong with it as I recall (probably 10 years since I saw it) but that is one hell of a scene. One of quite a few great scenes, actually - enough to make this the worst film that I really liked. Also Gere gets the smirk wiped of his face throughout the film, which is a joy to watch, especially if you've suffered him in the remake of Breathless.

I wanna find out why I'm working - the answer can't be just to pay bills and pile up more money.

Thank you for this! I love this scene to such extent that it has always been one of my favorites in any film!

Yep, I love the chemistry between Gwynne and Hopkins in the watch scene. You know they are the cool uncles who are a lot of fun.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
