Remake / New Conan?

I can't remember where I heard it, but I'm fairly sure I recently heard something about either a remake or just plain new Conan movie...has anyone else heard this? If anyone has any info about this, please post it, I'd like to hear more about it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I heard something about a new Conan, played, of course, by someone other than Arnold, of course.

How do you feel about that? Would you like to see a new Conan movie, even if it starred someone else? Personally, I would have to see who is in it, and I think maybe I could get into it so long as it was a NEW movie and NOT a remake. I mean, there's no reason for a remake, there almost never is, but if it was a new movie based on actual Conan book(s) then it might have potential. I wouldn't want it to be just a vehicle for special effects, though...but I have a feeling it likely would be.

The new Conan film is (ostensibly) a new film based on the original character by Robert E. Howard, not a remake of Conan the Barbarian.

Unfortunately, rather than adapting one of the original short stories that are still in print after almost 80 years, or even going with Milius' King Conan: Crown of Iron screenplay, the new film is basically rebooting Conan. It takes most of the elements from CtB - home village destroyed and parents murdered when he was young by a rampaging warlord-sorcerer, leading him to dedicate his life to revenge - but changes about the names. The villainous role is some dude called Khalar Zym (played by Stephen Lang), the love interest is now a priestess-warrior called Tamara (played by Rachel Nichols), and whatnot. Everything else is taken from other Sword-and-Sorcery films, even previous Conan films.

You're right, there's no reason for a remake. It's as if the producers have personally set out to alienate not just Howard fans, but Conan the Barbarian fans as well. Howard fans just want to see a Howard adaptation, while CtB fans would probably not want to see a new Conan without Arnold.

Here's the IMDB page for it:

The only good aspect of the whole thing is Conan himself, played by Jason Momoa of Stargate Atlantis fame, who at least looks the part according to the latest photos.

But yeah, it's not looking good.

I think another Conan sequel--with Conan as king would be immensly better. I'm going to wait for further information before I speculate, but Arnold is at a good age to play King Conan. I doubt I will see that film ever come to life, but I wish it would.

I agree with you. For me Arnold is only real Conan. I would like to see him as king. Even as support role. I dont mind for new heroes as long as no one pretends to be Conan.
