Roger Rees RIP

Roger Rees, the British actor who played Fred Holywell, Scrooge's nephew, died on July 10, 2015. I am sorry to hear this. I thought he played Fred quite well.

He was 71 years old.

reply

I absolutely loved him in this role. Just wonderful. RIP, Roger.

reply

Yes, that's so sad--he was best known for the role of Nicholas Nickleby.

reply

And his narration of the introduction and concluding lines were wonderful as well. "May the same be truly said of all of us." 

reply

I always enjoyed his turns as Lord John Marbury on "The West Wing"

A talented actor who will be missed.

He's an actor I like but not in this role. He's far too serious to be Bob.

reply

He didn't play Bob, that was David Warner. He played Scrooge's nephew, Fred.

reply

Yes you're absolutely right. Stops to engage brain.I correct, he was too serious to play Fred.

reply

I agree. He played the pathos quite well but the jollyness was lacking.

At the time he was best kmown for his Nicholas Nickleby performance, but more important is that he uas a dead ringer for the young Charles Dickens. The character of Fred is most nearly like Dickens humself and that makes his casting particularly apt. I thibk his performance is excellent.

reply

His performance in this made me recognize him in everything else he did. He was always, "Scrooge's nephew, Fred' when I saw him.
