The short story could have been a book

Really think about it. King as always been accused of making his books too long. Look at It or the Stand. You could have cut over 100 pages out of either one of them and still kept the main story. Even Some of his novellas (to long for a short story, to short for a novel) are really just dragged put out short stories. Examples being the Sun Dog or Fair Extension. But this short story I think def could have been a book. U could give more background on the town, the uprising, Issac. So on. I almost wish King would revisit it. And make it into a novel. I mean with the amount if energy he wasted on the Dark Tower, he could have made like three Children of the Corn stories
