Yes,it was stretched 1981-1983 Chrysler Imperial. They never made many even of the regular car,let alone a stretched version. These cars had a throttle body injected 318 engine, that was nothing but trouble.Failure would make the engine die unannounced and not restart.Frank Sinatra knew of this problem very well,as he had a stretched Imperial and ran it until the early 90s.He was using it en route to Lee Iacocca's retirement celebtration in 1992 when it broke down in a remote area.Chrysler actually went after Sinatra and flew him in.Sinatra was reported to be very drunk at that ceremony.Guess he had plenty of time to down some drinks while in the back of the stalled Imperial.
The sad part of the Imperial is,it was basically a restyled 1980 Cordoba/Mirada,which themselves were based on the LeBaron/Diplomat cars, which in turn were totally based on the Aspen/Volare F-body cars. So,you could say the Imperial was nothing more than a loaded Volare coupe. Not worth the $18,000 pricetag (for the regular non stretched Imperial) in my book.
Stalled Chryslers have caused other problems as well....Dottie West was loaned a 1 year old New Yorker that failed en route to an appearance, she was driven by an elderly neighbor of hers to the appearance, however the old guy drove his K-car sedan off an exit ramp at a speed at least 20 mph over the speed limit, and jumped the ditch into a dirt berm.Dottie West survived the crash, but later died due to internal bleeding and a failed attempt at surgery.
