Career killing film!

I think this film almost destroyed the career of Burt Reynolds. It's odd for a good actor like Burt Reynolds to make such a bad film. It makes some of his earlier films seem worse than they were. There's a tendancy to lump all of the car-chase films together as complete trash after seeing this one. But White Lightning, Smokey And The Bandit, the first Cannonball Run and others were actually decent films. But this one is just too much. As others here have wondered, were they all high when they did this?
