favorite film

I have always loved Cal, loved the acting (always a huge fan of McCann and Mirren and what about Lynch??), loved the milieu and loved the simple structure that produced such a beautiful rock and a hard place situation that makes for such an amazing dilemma for the protagonist. It ranks up there with "My Name is Joe," and these films are rare. Great movie.

Both films are rather dark, but IMO "My Name Is Joe" was a far more compelling piece of work with and by Peter Mullen. "Cal" was...err....??? Just my opinion.

It's a brilliant film, I'd read the book first and was quite stunned that the film was visually exactly what I'd imagined. You're right the acting is great, John Lynch in particular.... I haven't seen 'My Name is Joe', but will certainly put it on my 'to watch' list!
'Lamb' , (by the same author, (Bernard MacLaverty)) is also an amazing film - bit tough to watch though; gruelling in fact, but again stunning performances....
I must confess I haven't watched either for years, it would be fab if a dvd was available, I'll have to have a gander and see if there is!

Haven't seen this movie since it first came out. Saw it twice then but could never hear the last line spoken. ??
