Mia Farrow is great in this

she's the best reoccuring actress Woody ever had, ever

"listen to your heart then do the opposite"

reply

In total agreement, Farrow was fantastic and should have been Oscar nominated.

reply

I didn't realize it was her for the first half of the movie! My one caveat was that the accent slipped at times. Most of my family is from the Bronx or Long Island, so I'm very aware of how the accent is supposed to sound, and she didn't quite nail it.

Superb performance by Mia Farrow. She should have won every award for this one!

reply

she is a very underrated actress. the fact she was NEVER nominated for an oscar is beyond me.

reply

Wow, I didn't realize until now that Mia was never nominated for an Oscar. Say what you want about the woman behind the role, but Mia's never been less than extraordinary in any film she's made. And I love the fact that such a beautiful woman is made up to look like a floozie here.

reply

I often debate who the better muse was: Mia Farrow or Diane Keaton.

reply

I debate that as well, and my answer tends to depend on whether I've seen a Mia or a Diane film more recently. Really, it's pretty much a tossup in my book, as they were both uniformly excellent with Woody. It's kind of sad to see the Mia films now when you know what later transpired between her and Woody, though.

reply

Farrow is, as always, GREAT!

reply

I totally love Mia. I always thought she was a bit of a nutcase (which, in reality, she probably is), but once I started watching more of her films, I realized what a talented actress she is. Now, nutcase or not, I adore the woman.

I totally agree. Mia creates a unique persona in this film that is so different from anything else she's ever played. I don't know why "Broadway Danny Rose" sort of fell through the cracks among Woody's other films, but he had so many excellent ones in the '80s that I guess it just got left behind because the others had bigger names.

omg, op, i was about the post a thread with the very same title, and I just clicked in the boards first.!!!!!

mia is a *beep* legend, and the academy doesn't have a clue, she was great with woody...she's sexy sadie of the beatles for *beep* sake...having said that she does seem a bit loony (and when she was younger boy was that attractive) and her recent output is mostly crap, but then again who's isn't to be frank...

as for dianne, and another great actress, more of a comedian, less of a vamp.

both great, and both sadly superseded by talentless *beep*

reply

I don't agree with your general statement - she could often be like a dishrag who would suck the energy out of any scene she was in - but I just LOVE her in this. So different from her usual wan, whiny self. Definitely should have been Oscar-nominated.

When life gives you lemons, make Limoncello.

She looked a little like Melanie Griffith in this movie.

reply

Just rewatched this little classic and Farrow just gets better with each viewing!

reply

She did an amazing job, I thought she was at least nominated, what a travesty on the Academy's part.

reply

Roger Ebert called her performance The Best of the Year.

reply

Even in an interview after their extraordinarily messy breakup, Allen gave Farrow due credit as a performer.

She was originally to play in "Manhattan Murder Mystery" with him, but then she was quickly replaced with Diane Keaton when the scandal broke. But comparing the two women, Allen said, "Mia is an extraordinary actress. She's the kind who can actually become different people..."

PS: Speaking of "the scandal", isn't it pretty creepy that he turns to an Adolescent girl in this and says, "How old are you?.....Twelve? Are you married?"

He's such a perv.....

No matter how their relationship ended or who actually did what, Mia Farrow and Woody Allen did their best work together.
