The Carnegie Deli is closing after 79 years!

So if you want to sit where those comics sat as they told the story, you've got three months :(

I went there last week. I was prepared for a long line, but only waited about 15 minutes for a seat. My wife and I sat with a lovely family from Long Island who wanted to meet as a group at the deli one more time. My wife had a nice spot next to Bill Clinton's picture, but I was stuck next to photos of Kevin James, Jim Belushi, and David Hasselhoff. The Broadway Danny Rose sandwich was incredible, about five inches tall, maybe the best sandwich I've ever had. And their cheesecake is the best (and tallest) that I've ever had. Carnegie Deli will be missed.

I envy you. I haven't set foot in NYC in twenty years. I hope to get there soon, but not in time for the Carnegie :(

Does anyone know the full name of Herbie, the longtime maƮtre d?

He appeared in a cameo as a waiter in the opening scene of BDR but doesn't appear in the credits.

The same family still owns it so I'd email them; they'll certainly know!
