'And Say This With All Do Respect'

I have seen Scoop 3 or 4 times and I honestly really enjoyed it. I am watching BDR right now (for the first time) and I recognized some of the same dialogue. "God Bless You Darling" and so forth

15 minutes into BDR and he's essentially the same character. Granted the essence of the movie is so far centered around his character (unlike Scoop). But I think I am going to enjoy it.

Forgive me WA snobs for seeing Scoop 4 times before seeing BDR... I forsee some bashing. I became a fan less than a year ago and I am just now getting into his older catalogue. I have seen all of the 90s and 2000s movies, Annie Hall, Hannah, and Manhatton. I watched Stardust Memories last night and so far I am pretty sure it is my least favorite. I bought all three "collections" from target.com for $104... if anyone else is looking for a good deal.

Anyone have wanna give me a suggestion for the next older WA film I should watch?

Watch Bananas and Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex. And it's 'due respect', all the respect that's due to that person.

Noted... EYAWTKAS was very enjoyable. I also really enjoyed Bullets Over Broadway. Thanks

Keep an eye (ear!) on how many times Danny uses the word 'interject'. At first the viewer thinks he must be a reasonably clever guy for using such a word.

But by the 4th or 5th it becomes pretty clear that Danny has probably picked it up a few days prior to the start of the film and is now getting some serious mileage out of it!

I think Love and Death is Allen's best (pure) comedy! Better than Bananas and Everything You Wanted to Know...
I'm sort of the opposite of you... I fell it love with Annie Hall and Manhattan, and backtracked from there... I haven't really dove into anything after 1980, but I know I should! ...I haven't even seen Hannah and Her Sisters!

Love and Death is brilliant! I agree it is one of his all time best comedys if not films all together

Ah, Broadway Danny Rose. What made me laugh throughout the movie was the recognition of these characters. I've been in the business for about 25 years, and I've seen the two-bit agents, the wanna-be actors, the up-and-comers, the sweet old war-horses and the specialty acts that just are what they do and could never consider other employment. You mention the warmth of the film--you're so right. Allen's love of the business and of these characters just infuses every frame . . . even though, as you say, it may not be one of his most brilliant scripts, I do think the film is brilliant for its humanity and for the way that it captures a subculture of Manhattan. If you're interested in additional scenes, all you have to do is sit in the Actors Equity lounge in Midtown sometime and eavesdrop . . . priceless.

we're all very happy for you

I'm happy for him too. He pretty much won this comments thread. Sleeper is the best WA film. I'm glad we agree on that.

Purple Rose of Cairo

When I was a kid I thought "Take the Money and Run" was hilarious.

I saw Sleeper at a theater.

Guess I really am an old fart.

I'm sorry baby, I had to crash that Honda.
