I Love Vangelis But I Don't Think...
I don't think Vangelis was right for this movie, I feel like a much more traditional score would have better suited the film, not that it would have changed the movie all that much.

shareI thought the soundtrack was okay. A more traditional score would have been good though, I keep thinking about Master and Commander's score.
Vangelis was extremely popular during this period though, Chariots of Fire was only a couple of years old...
Conquer your fear, and I promise you, you will conquer death.
I thought the music during the opening really evoked a mood, kind of languid and lonely, and I think it fit perfectly. The rest of the score was okay; nothing special, but I don't think it detracted from the film.
shareThe Vangelis score gave the film an eerie ethereal feel (that was understandably evocative of Blade Runner at times) ..far more interesting than a more traditional naval type score (e.g. Horner)
shareThe score's fine; in fact it's one of the 80's best and I found it superior to Chariots of Fire.
It's moody, dark, brooding, passionate, and mysterious at the same time yet it never fails to be epic.
I think that the music of Vangelis suits the film fine. Lovely photography as well.
shareYes, the score never really works for me. I love most of the film, I think it is very well made, acted, produced. But the score is odd.
shareAgreed.
