I think IMDb's 6.5 overall rating is a perfect fit ~ this movie's not great, but certainly watchable.
It's dated a bit, has holes in the plot, Wasson's acting is not very good {but good enough as the lead character in this one, actually!}, and de Palma must get some credit for trying some Hitchcock stuff!
It's nowhere near as good as Hitchcock, by the way, but it's ok, especially for the 80's!

Pretty much agree with all this. This is still a guilty pleasure of mine from the 80s, but definitely not what I would call a "great" film.

Even at the time it was a little over the top with that which gave it a cheezy feel, but now it makes the film look more dated.
But it still can be a fun film.
It got good until the lady was killed then went down hill.

Totally agree. Nice, but not great. Certainly better than the overrated DRESSED TO KILL, but not by much. It frustrates me to watch movies that don't explain basic things. I know some movies leave stuff off to spur "viewers' imaginations", but BODY DOUBLE leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Like, why did the husband killed the wife? We never really know. I mean, if you're going to kill someone you need to have a pretty strong reason to do it, unless you're a certified psychopath. Why did the police wanted to stop Jake as he was on his way to rescue Holly Body from the Indian when it was more than apparent that a truck was driving away thru a restricted area? With all the cops in the area, that's the least likely thing for a criminal to do. Sure, I enjoyed watching Melanie's bare bottom. She was hot!

The husband kills Gloria for her money - someone says at some point, the policeman I think, that she was a very rich woman.
The policeman who tried to stop Jake must have been plain idiotic. How difficult would it have been to just take a look in the car a few meters away? Well he must have been sure that Jake was just talking nonsense, after all it was Hollywood, plenty of lunatics were running amok.
