what the hell kind of porno actress doesn't do girl/girl?

Holly says she doesn't get into it. Yeah, good luck in THAT industry lady. It's the best genre in all of film.

reply

I too can't undertsand how anyone could have become such a star with Holly's lengthy list of "don'ts".

There, daddy, do I get a gold star?

I sort of get the impression that DePalma was trying to have fun with the topic rather than attempting a documentary on the porno industry. But what kind of murderer digs a hole for the body with that perfect a rectangular shape?

reply

Your argument is the best one for why I don't buy that women are not exploited in pornography. Men claim women have the control, but women don't own the companies, they don't direct the films, and if there are things they won't do, they won't last long in the business. So where is the power and control that women supposedly have in the porn industry? Everything is dictated by the men and the audience; not the women.

I have my own mind. And as a reward, I get to use it.

reply

Haha

reply

Not true. There are many female porn producers/directors. There are even a few porn companies owned by women.

I don't have an opinion. The word "opinion" implies the possibility I'm wrong.

And there are women who are connected with organising trafficking and who procure kids for their partners sick pleasure.

reply

Skylightmovies, perhaps you hate women as much as you apparently do men. Women who own and run adult video businesses have none of the incentive, malevolence, or stupidity to get involved in highly criminal human trafficking. To do so while running a successful high-scrutiny business would be irrational and self-destructive, and of course destructive to others. I have never heard of any psychopathic women running adult entertainment businesses. And neither have you.

As to your earlier rant against women who choose to perform sex acts of which you seem to disapprove, the women have the choice to not perform or to not work for the director or the producer. How about a great counterexample! Are you suggesting that punk-porn hottie, Joanna Angel, should complain to someone about being "required" to perform nasty sex acts in adult videos? She's the main star, director, producer, and owner of her company, Burning Angel. She plans, approves, finances, and makes money from everything she does, and moreover, appears to greatly enjoy her work, including girl/girl.

I was referring to a comment made before me,LAST YEAR,which, surprise surprise, I cannot recollect since it has been deleted.
Who rattled your cage?:):):)Has a personal nerve been touched?
You really have misjudged me from the little you've read, it's too funny reading your extremely agitated diatribe which is the universal defence for the glamourous accessible porn for adults.
You are referring to specific permutations which may or may not exist, I don't know.
But I do know of women and men, girls and boys, who are abused and trapped in an industry, which may have a legal off shoot like the Tori Black genre, but which is horrific and an abusive meat market.

What has your tirade has to do with girl on girl action ?
Back to the OP, this was the 1980's and maybe Melanie needed to preserve an image that said , I'm strictly for men thank you. But it IS funny hearing her say it in today's world as a 'successfully famous porn star'
Maybe the backers or script writers were so straight or unadventurous and couldn't cope with the responsibility of giving the audience such naughty mental imagery.

And before you tell me exactly what happened, remember I WASN'T THERE when they made the damn film. Maybe you were.

I simply saw it one night and fell in love with De Palma's Hitchcock direction and sweeping strings, Melanie Griffiths' voice, Deborah Shelton's beauty and the hand held drill.

Sorry if I attributed your comment to the deleted post as an affirmation of its content.

I wasn't there when Body Double was made, though I did hear a detailed pre-release (radio) discussion of the movie by director Brian De Palma. In the early 1990s, I attended a seminar in which Annette Haven, a famous star in the porn industry when the movie was produced, lectured about her involvement with Body Double. She had been cast in the Holly Body role, but studio concerns about casting an actual porn star pushed her out of the role, which went to Melanie Griffith. De Palma kept Ms. Haven as a technical adviser to the film, thus her own porn performance "terms" went into the script as the verbal list Holly Body gave to Jake Scully.

I, too, noted Hitchcock-like elements in the story and the stylistic shooting; innocent man accused by circumstantial evidence, rotating views circling around actors, and the deep tunnel view reminiscent of Vertigo.
Also enhancing the film was the Chemosphere house where Scully was house-sitting (also used in a 1964 episode of The Outer Limits called The Duplicate Man), and during the porn-shoot scene, the pounding "Relax" music by (and starring in the scene) Frankie Goes to Hollywood, from their album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome.

@ SirWizard

Maybe I should wait until 2018 to reply (!) but thanks for the update and info about the house.

Having re read some of thes posts I still think it's strange that she nixed girl on girl.
Maybe she charged more for that...

Actually Shakey spear girl . . . You are so WRONG.

"Men" don't control the industry.

"Market Forces" control the industry.

The WOMAN has Total and absolute CONTROL.

If there are things "she won't do" then she "won't do them".

However, if market forces dictate that a particular "scene" is in demand then the director / producer etc WILL look for a "actress" who is willing to oblige that scene. because that type of scene "SELLS".

Our woman in particular has no obligation to do the scene. Instead she can pass it by and decide to do another project.

However, if people don't come a knockin' at her door for roles then that is their choice to hire someone who they feel is right for the role or is willing to do the work.

quite simple really, I just get the impression that you are a man hater to some extent.

I have enough faith in my judgment to recognize a stinker.

What happens if a producer in unable to find any performer to do a girl/girl scene ?. I do apologise. My knowledge in this field is limited.

reply

amazing how hot Melanie Griffith used to be... what happened?

reply

After having Babies?.. with apparently quite a bit Of DRUGS in-between them..
And from the look Of things a couple PLASTiC SURGERY DISASTERS.. What a Shame..

reply

What happens if a producer wants to have cornflakes for breakfast but is unable to find any supermarkets that sell cornflakes? Absurd. Cornflakes are available in great abundance.

Similarly, finding performers who do girl/girl, or just about any other common porn activity, is just slightly harder than finding a supermarket that sells cornflakes. The producer can simply go to one of the talent agency websites and choose from hundreds of beautiful-looking performers who list their various and multifaceted specialties. Want to hire a cutie who performs (fill in the blank) on camera? You might have to search for a whole 15 seconds to find a suitable girl/girl performer.

Stink_Face is stating exactly the way it is.

"what the hell kind of porno actress doesn't do girl/girl?"

In the 80s lesbianism was still controversial and seen as more immoral than today. The writers probably had her say that line to make an otherwise pornstar look more innocent, since she was supposed to be a positive character in the story.

I spit my water out when she said no water sports.

No pun intended.

reply

Forget the girl/girl... can you imagine a porn star today who won't shave? It's a novelty to see a girl who isn't shaved these days. Or so I've heard ;)

reply

that was the early 80s, back than women kept at least a landing strip. Going totally bare didn't come into fashion until the late 90s. Check out old playboys from that era.

reply

I assumed that she was in a position of being just famous enough in the porn industry to be able to dictate her own terms.

Right. It would be unusual for a performer to have that many restrictions, but not completely unimaginable. There could have been a time in Holly's life when she filmed those acts, but now, for whatever reason, is in a position to decline them.

For all we know she has a personal fortune stashed away, and is in the industry for kicks. She could even be, say, TIPPI HEDREN'S DAUGHTER!

Holly Body gave Jake Scully a rapid (verbal) list of activities/criteria that were unacceptable to her.

That list actually came from Annette Haven, who was originally scheduled to play Holly, but was forced out of the role from studio concerns about casting an actual porn star. In the early 1980's, Ms. Haven was "famous enough in the porn industry to be able to dictate her own terms." Body Double director, Brian De Palma, retained her as a technical adviser to the film, thus her own porn performance "terms" went into the script and came out of Melanie Griffith's mouth.
[This is based on my recollection of Ms. Haven's lecture at a seminar I attended in the early 1990s.]
