Befuddled by shooting scene

How, and when, did Visser manage to get an apartment so handy from which to shoot into Abby's apt? How did he get from there into her apt. so quickly after he shoots Ray? Why is he reaching for the bathroom window--is he not in the same apt? Is he shot by Abby in the hallway? But bathrooms don't typically open onto hallways, do they? Am I so very confused, or is it the movie?
