Jack Tripper's Conceited Brother was Terrific in the Lead

I hear about how John Getz isn't good, or good enough, for such an important part. One thing... it's more a Thankless Role than anything else. This is a Neo Film Noir and his is the part of a complete pawn. Getz plays the part well: He's there, and he isn't there.

I read someone who dreamt this movie were made now or remade with Billy Bob in his role. I thank god though this was made then, not now, and with actors who didn't realize they were "Acting in a Coen Brothers Movie," which, at times lately, there's that feeling when watching their vehicles from HOW ART THOU and after.

Anyhow, just wanted to be the one who defends Getz. Watch some Noir flicks and you'll realize, not every actor turns in a Tour De Force performance.

I thought he was excellent in the film, just as he was in The Fly, and his small role in Zodiac.

He’s a fantastic character actor who is always watchable and believable while being understated - the best kind.
