Too Much Cursing?

Don't get me wrong... I have nothin' against cussin', but this movie is PG. Jiminy Christmas!

reply

Casting my mind all the way back to the last time I watched this (last Sunday night), I can think of only about three or four swearwords in the whole 100 minute movie! Not even worth complaining about, most kids these days swear more than that in ten seconds.

If you want a real shocker of a PG-rated movie, watch Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

It's a 1984 movie (presumably when it met the ratings board), which doesn't very well share the same standards as "these days". If I do recall, the "F word" was used which automatically qualifies it as an R-rated movie.

You're right.The "f-word" is said about 4 times,which today,would qualify for a R rating(on which the limit is two).American Splendor,which says it twice(which of course,can be done in an PG-13 movie),got an R rating for brief strong language.Crazy,eh?

for the record, I believe the movie is made BEFORE it's submitted for rating by the MPAA

reply

I was surprised by the amount of swearing in this too. I'm no prude but the language was pretty strong for a PG film. I'm surprised the MPAA didn't tell the studio to overdub the words or bleep them out completely.

Yanks are such *beep* pussies!

reply

Ya crazy? British English sounds as pussy as the English language gets! You put a homosexual and a Brit' in the same room together, I will think I am in a gay bar.

reply

We invented the language, pal. You bastardized it.

Actually an edited version of Beat Street did the rounds on Pay Tv Networks like Showtime years ago. I assume it's simply the version that aired on Network Tv. Recently, Beat Street started airing again on Pay Tv Networks and an unedited version was used. Go figure.

this has nothing to do with the thread, but it's the only one that's fairly recent.
does anyone know the (official) name and artist of that song "we can make it right" when kk and tracy are slow dancing? it's so damn hard to find.

reply

@Sammyarios

I'm on the hunt for this song as well. I've even made an MP3 version from the DVD so I can send it to various old school disc jockey's for help. Eventually, the mystery will be solved. Someday.

You think this is bad, check out 1976's "The Bad News Bears". Waaaay more swearing in that one, and mostly out of the mouth of an adorable freckle-faced nine year old. Everything short of the "f" bomb comes out of that kid's mouth for almost every scene he's in. Obviously what got the movie a PG instead of a G.

you would be thinking of old English which is a common mistake , the English that is prevelant today is modern English which has only been around since the 1500's and while it dose take elements from other languages (most do) it did originate in the UK

reply

I don't like cuss words either, but it is South Bronx. If there is no cursing in South Bronx circa 1984, I don't know where there would be!
