Rupert Everett the spy

How good or useful a spy would Rupert Everett's character have been, given that his working for the commies springs not from deep-seated political idealism, but just because he's disappointed by how things turned out in his personal life?

His character was loosely based on Guy Burgess who was also homosexual and alcoholic. He was enormously effective as a spy. While frustrations in his personal life no doubt played a part in his alienation from the Establishment, he was also a sincere and idealistic Anti-Fascist.
