Wasn't this a really bad movie?

Or was it a really good movie?

I like to think of it as one of those "It's so bad it's good movies"!

It's better than it probably should've been. It's surprisingly well acted and the way they shot Hollywood Blvd is really well done. It has it's cheesy factor too and the dialogue ain't always the greatest. Somebody must've liked it because it was very profitable and spawned 3 sequels, each with different girl playing Angel.

I liked the film and this is the kind of movies that I loved to watch though. What got me started in watching movies like this was the old original USA Network because they would show films like this during the week, on the weekends, and late at night. I grew up a fan in high school of USA UP ALL NIGHT so, that is why I like films like this to watch. I love cheesy movies. The more cheesy it is the more I love it!

Yes and I love those kinds of movies too! That is why I loved watching USA UP ALL NIGHT back when it was on because they would show tons of films like that and it was great entertainment too! It is a lot better than the entertainment that we watch now on cable TV I hate to say it.

I'd have to say it's a masterpiece of crap!

What surprises me is that each time they had a actress playing Angel then would the ratings not drop? I mean it is not the same first actress that was in the first film. Plus, each time a sequel came out the less we saw of the original cast of the first two films. I enjoyed the franchise and thought it was a great film to watch in my opinion. I love films like this and wished that the networks today would have late night programming with movies like this on. The CW in Central Illinois sucks and should take lessons on the CW from Milwuakee and Chicago because they show late at night low budget films and B movies too which I found very entertaining to watch.

I like it. I thought it was a very decent movie 7/10

I totally agree with you that it is a decent movie to watch all right and I would rather watch this than the crap that a lot of the networks are showing now a days on TV.

Well, I thought it quite a refreshing departure from Hollywood's typical slasher and "death by sex" fare. Instead of looking for excuses to have gratuitous sex scenes and ridiculously gruesome deaths, it's got a solid plot that focuses on the characters and the bizarre lives they lead. All the actors seemed at least competent, and many turned in excellent performances. Even the secondary "normal" characters had their moments: I particularly liked a scene where the school guidance counselor, of all people, turned out to have a little more depth to her than anyone would have suspected. No, I'd say it wasn't really bad at all.

I just finished watching it for the first time (I was a teen in the 80s and can't believe I never watched it before). I wouldn't call it bad or good. It wasn't awful...it kept my interest in order for me to watch the whole thing, but I don't think I'd watch it again. I did find the final revenge "chase" scene compelling, which I guess gave the movie merit for me because if I didn't care at all about the characters I wouldn't care about the finale.
The acting was good...not great, but good for the characters being portrayed and the script given. If a friend asked if they should watch, I would say "it's up to you", not "stay away". I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't warn against it.

My feeling is that it wasn't as good a movie as it could have been, and it really wasn't as bad a movie as it could have been.

I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hitler.

Definitely. It's not at sleazy as it should be at all -- definitely not what I expected after all the years of seeing it at the VHS rental store as a kid. Savage Streets, this ain't!

The serial killer scenes are genuinely creepy, and the shots of Sunset Blvd at night are great. But if you cut out the brief nudity, Angel could easily have been an ABC Movie Of The Week back in 1984. It's basically what Lifetime movies are now: moral panic thrillers.

Wow, on an actual level...nah I own the "Angel Collection" DVD, so, I love it. Could the original "Angel" be better? Yeah, but it has enough for me to hold up. I agree with blazerfan40, on how the performances made the film better. Hey, Roger Ebert agreed!
