Loved this movie

THE final scene is the only bad part of this movie. Without giving anything away it's so obvious it's not the person it's supposed to be that takes the fall and it looked terrible.
The music in this is very catchy and assists the movie greatly. One of the opening scenes involving main man Johnny(Spano)speeding down Alpahbet City without looking at the road but fixed on the male passenger he has in his car is brilliant.
I really enjoyed this movie and i thought Spano was cast very well for this part.

I am surprised at the flame that passes for commentary on the main board for Alphabet City. This was a very good movie. Certainly not excellent, but very good. I'm thinking of putting it in my top 200.

I have come to chew bubblegum and kick asss...and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Alphabet City should definitely have higher rating on IMDB than just 4.2 (it's ridiculously low now), I would give 6 or 7 stars out of 10 for this movie. I admit that this isn't perfect movie but if you love the 80s atmosphere, then you'll enjoy the movie. If people like Alphabet City then they'll probably love these 80s movies too:

To Live And Die In L.A.
Manhunter
Miami Vice (the series I mean)
Night of the Comet
Fear City
Body Double
Thief
Black Rain
Streets of Fire

etc.

Btw, a great review of Alphabet City can be found here: http://houseofselfindulgence.blogspot.fi/2012/09/alphabet-city-amos-po e-1984.html

Huh, Jami Gertz is in this movie as Johnny's sister? Wow, she's 18 years old and takes a very nice extreme closeup.

Johnny is like a young Carlito from Carlito's Way. (not exactly, but in the same business market.)

In this movie, Vincent Spano made for some good closeups. Esp crusing around in his car.

The director and crew shot the movie with a lot of interesting camera heights, foreground details and street perspectives. I liked the use of Johnny's shadow against the brick walls, and when he steps in front of street lights in the longer shots, it gave a silloette a couple times. It's on TCM tonight.

I found this link to a youtube video. The well done scenes are at :50 and after 1:10

Eh, this isn't a very good movie. In fact, it's quite ridiculous. However, there's something I kinda like about it. The visuals aesthetics, for example, are admirable. They're overdone, yes, but they make the movie fairly stylish and moody. So the movie is, at the very least, a nice looking picture... and what the hell, it is entertaining to some extent. Oh, and that cool car and a young sexy Jami Gertz are a plus.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
