Kevin Smith remake

It seems Kevin Smith of Clerks fame is going to do a remake of this wacky movie.

I WON'T HAVE IT!!! I WILL HUNT DOWN KEVEN SMITH AND SPANK HIS FAT ASS WITH A CRICKET BAT IF HE TRIES!!!!!!

Seriously, this is exactly the kind of film it's foolish to remake - it's a movie that's better than it has any right to be. It's a movie where the filmmakers threw in the most ridiculous hash of ingredients and sprinkled irreverent deadpan humor over it all, and it worked! It shouldn't have worked, but it did. There's no way in hell a second try at the same material could be even half is good, because lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place and you can't remake quirky successes.

No, the kind of movie you want to remake are the kind that you can improve on.

Maybe in the 8th dimension they do...
Here they remake movies that had some success, if not straight out hits, exactly with the delusion of having lightning strike twice in the same place.
So, it's almost always a bad idea to do a remake here.

He used to be cool until he gave in to the dark side.

Imdb? I heard he's a NPC too.

Nah, you just grew up and he didn’t. Go back and rewatch his films. Clerks still holds up (although that could he due to Kevin taking a lot of inspiration from “Slacker”) but his other movies are not as good once you leave your teens/twenties. Chasing Amy seemed like a very powerful and dramatic movie when I was 17 or so. I went back to it years later and I realized Smith has some pretty immature views on sexuality. Dogma could have been great if someone else wrote and directed it. Jay and Silent Bob was basically him giving himself a handjob while whining about critics. He was never good and he is clinging on to his youth in the saddest way possible.

ouch! burn! take that kevin!
yeah you're probly right , he'd probly agree with you too

reply

I hope not, they will never recapture this lightning in a bottle!

I never "got" Kevin Smith's movies.

His script writing isn't endearing to me either and all of his characters are pedantic in their delivery.

He should collaborate with Oliver Stone about "kitchen sink dialogue" where you get the characters' message across with very little verbiage.

I believe Smith would never do anything to the Buckaroo Banzai as he considers it such an influential movie from his childhood which was way ahead of its time and very unique.

He talks a lot about it in this Q&A with Weller and Lithgow, which is really quite interesting and funny and a must for all Banzai fans:

He did a 20m intro at a NYC screening.
Peter Weller on Buckaroo Banzai https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CksxqXqpyE

There was a time when i would have been excited about that news.

He should make buckaroo banzai against the world crime league instead
