Why no special edition blu-ray?

2001 has got several re-releases and special edition treatment, but 2010 only a bare bone release. I think it deserves better.

Blu-ray? Who uses Blu-rays these days? I've got 2010 on STREAMING, baby!

reply

I still use Blu rays😊

I stream movies to see if I like them.

If I like the movie I'll purchase the Blu Ray.

I like owning physical media.

"I like owning physical media."

I don't. For 20 years I've had physical media like DVDs and then Blu-rays, and it's been nothing but hassle:

1. After a few dozen movies in original packaging, my extremely limited space fills up.
2. I discard the original packaging and extras-only discs and put the movie disks into CD wallets, and organising those is a bitch, as there is tons of shuffling and space is strictly regimented.
3. There's still the issue of physical space, and discs and players can fail and have to be replaced, expensively.

So I decided to use Netflix and buy or rent movies on streaming instead, which has been a godsend as DVD is terrible and Blu-ray is too data-intensive, so HD streaming is a good middle ground.

Good job I have a great (if expensive) internet connection!

I have a room in my house dedicated to media.

I have all of my blurays, dvds, vhs tapes, cds, vinyl along with my tv and sound system.

I understand where you are coming from though when space is limited. And I agree that the quality of some movies are superior on streaming.

I do have a few movies on Amazon Prime that were never released on a physical format.

reply

Yeah, you can't trust streaming services these days. 2010 probably isn't in any danger, but there are movies that can be censored, manipulated some ways or pulled out totally. If I collect physical media for some reason, I don't need streaming.

reply

I find it hard to believe that a streaming movie or TV show you paid for could be pulled, there would be outrage from consumers!

reply

I was under impression that you pay a monthly fee for the entire catalogue (like music streaming services, Spotify, etc). They can take out anything without a warning if their licencing contract runs out, for example. I've had free account (with ads) at Spotify for a few months now and during that time some songs have dissappeared from the service already. Not impressed.

I've bought movies and TV shows on streaming services like Google Play Movies and TV, and later Amazon Prime Video, and they've stayed in my accounts ever since. A couple of movies I bought on HD have even been upgraded to 4K, too (no use to me). There has been a special case when Babylon 5 was re-released in a semi-HD transfer that looks better than the old version I had, but some episodes went missing from the first season, apparently because they'd left the transfer to that last. I'm actually missing some S1 episodes as a result, but I hope it's temporary.
