Would anyone else like to see a sequel?
I like the ending. It set ups nicely for a third part.

shareClark wrote the third book 2061, which I read years ago.
Good enough book, I don't think it will make a great movie though.
A good/great one, yes.
Ridley Scott has optioned book four, "3001" that centres on the monolith aliens finding Frank Poole floating in space. It'll be a mini-series.

Nope. No interest in a sequel. If one is made,I’ll definitely see it but I’m not clamouring for one.
2001 is a masterpiece.
2010 is darn good but more mainstream.
A sequel, in today’s film industry, would be a CGI fest with shaky cams and sweeping camera moves and action sequences. Just look at Ridley Scott’s alien prequels.
They should remake 2001 a space odyssey but with a diverse cast intended to showcase the transgender community.
shareWouldn't you also have a weird continuity issue of a circa 2010 Cold War stand off scenario which didn't in fact happen in reality? The odd continuity gaps from between 2001 and 2010 are problematic enough without adding a third installment. For instance, why does Floyd ask "Why wasn't I told?" when the first film clearly shows he had full knowledge of the Jupiter Mission and told HAL to lie. Finally there's the problem of all of them being separated by huge gaps of time. At some point your just going to end up with a confused, muddled mess like the Halloween franchise.
I think the ship has sailed on making any kind of sequel. Although I would personally advise against it, you COULD take 2001 and 2010 and telescope them into one film, update the story to a near future from the vantage point of 2022, and completely remake them both as one continuous story. The odds of it succeeding aren't greatly improved, but you might have a fighting chance of making something half way interesting that wasn't some weird Twilight Zone fan fiction. In short, a RE-ADAPTION not a REMAKE. Although again, I would advise against doing even this if asked.
