Would Samantha have trouble fitting in?

As a working class Italian among all the Connecticut WASPs, would she have been that popular?

reply

she doesn't have an accent like Jo (facts of life) and seemed to want to know more about boys and clothes.....no.

I thought though it would have been weird though explaining to her friends/potential dates that she and her dad live with her dad's employer.

I was a little kid watching (and this was 1980's) but I don't think they really touched on class issues from this perspective too heavily. They might have done some episodes but not many.

Angela never talked down to Samantha and was courteous to her. Did not make her do household chores.

Rarely remember any class conflict playing out. It seems unrealistic.

I don't either. The idea was (?) Angela was supposed to be a mother figure for Samantha.

Okay 'dad' sleeps in a separate room for most of the time and is paid (presumably at least min wage?). I guess he gets healthcare/dental But the were supposed to be a 'family'?

Interesting take on the concept of non-traditional family there.

I think Samantha was supposed to have an accent like dad
