Best Theme Song Ever?

This ranks close to the top.

Other great ones:

Golden Girls
Full House
Step by Step
Family Matters
Perfect Strangers
Charles in Charge
WKRP in Cincinnati
Mash (instrumental)
Newhart (instrumental)
Mary Tyler Moore Show

Probably forgetting some. I miss a good theme song. I think it's a great way to introduce characters, summarize the plot maybe, set the tone for the show, and it tends to help make a sitcom lasting in nostalgia.

Worse theme songs:

Seinfeld
Home Improvement
Cosby Show
Shows that have none

Also Taxi, Growing Pains, and Bosom Buddies.

Theme songs are so wonderful, and yet they haven't been commonplace since the 1990s, and that's sad---and frankly---shocking. Because they seemed like such a part of TV form, that to just drop them to near-extinction seems wrong, somehow, like HOW CAN A SHOW NOT HAVE A THEME SONG?

They are part of the set-up of a show. But, even shows without songs, per se, had some kind of intro in the pre-2000s, like SOAP, with its spoken intro. Now, shows just do a title-flash mostly. That, coupled with the 5 to 10 whole minutes that have been lost on shows these days to make room for more inane commercials, and it's a pretty sad case indeed---despite the cinematic quality of many programs.

As for the best theme songs, my favorites are from these shows:

1] LIFE WITH LUCY
2] PUNKY BREWSTER
3] THE GOLDEN GIRLS
4] THREE'S COMPANY
5] CHARLES IN CHARGE

And there's plenty more where those come from! The first 2 in particular, are two of the sweetest, most uplifting songs I've ever heard!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Whatever happened to good sitcoms? Guess with Netflix and comic book movies, people want a little more. Your list of shows bring back weeknight memories from my youth.

I liked the theme song, but I felt Family Ties & Cheers had the best ones for sitcoms.

The ultimate theme song though, belongs to Knight Rider!

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
