New Netflix series

Apparently they've been teasing it for a few months, but I hadn't heard of it until the new trailer dropped yesterday.

Doesn't look too bad. Tone is a tad jokey at times, but I assume that's an attempt to appeal to teens. But the way it's offset with the action and darker elements I could see it striking a Guardians of the Galaxy-type of balance. I like the animation. Not sure why every new incarnation seems afraid to embrace the original theme, but...

Thoughts?

It looks okay.

The animation does look good (and they sure got the looks for Keith and Pidge down! The others are a bit more iffy, IMO).

The big test will be if/when we see Blazing Sword. That's my bench march for Voltron, personally. If it looks anything like the original then I'll be pleased.

I was pretty happy with the character designs (Not sure why Lance seems to looks so slack jawed though), but I wasn't crazy about Hunk's voice. He's this big, hulking guy and he sounds like Peter Brady.

My test will be the theme. If no one remembers anything else about Voltron, they remember that amazing theme. And I want it full-throated orchestral, not some hip-hop-a-tized or synthesized version.

Ha, that's such a great summation of Lance's look ("slack jawed").

And yes, the theme is vital.

Edited to add: I've seen about half of the first episode and, sadly, no theme. At all. That I can hear anyway. And certainly not the classic theme. *crosses fingers will appear in either end credits or later episode*

So far, though? This new version has been pretty good. I was prepared to hate it but it's fun.

The voice acting is way better in the new series,I found most of the voice acting cheesy in this series other than the princess(BJ Ward)

its another abomination. They turned Princess Allura into Princess Zelda surprised Nintendo hasn't sued yet. They also turned pidge into a girl. They never get it right. Voltron is their greatest triumph but also they greatest enemy. Let Voltron rest and create something new from scratch. Stop torturing fans already.

Since beginning this thread I've watched the first half of S1 and that's probably as far as I'll get. It's not without its merits (I particularly like the animation), but the humor is forced and flat (particularly Coran), the characters couldn't be less compelling, and though I like the somewhat serialized approach, there's just not enough focus on the title "character". By this point they've formed Voltron, what, maybe one time? I get that they don't want to fall into the "Battle a Robeast every episode" trap, but come on.
