Do people REALLY hate The Final Battle vs The Miniseries?

I fail to see why, as TFB carries on the story started by the MS, albeit in a more action-oriented way than as the well-told but blatant WW2 allegory we see the MS as, but I think it concludes the story very well indeed. Yes, I said concludes, as I prefer to think that the campy TV series never happened. I just see it as Diana's damaged shuttle burning up in the atmosphere when she escapes. Result? Invasion over, Visitors return home, franchise over. Otherwise, the franchise will never have an end, as the remake saw to its cost.

BTW, what was the budget for TFB vs the MS? Lower?

I didn't care much for the magic kid, but otherwise I didn't mind the Final Battle. That part seemed more like Fantasy than Sci-Fi. Why would a hybrid between the two species get special superpowers?

Oh, I forgot about the Starchild. I find it difficult to see how a human/Visitor hybrid could possibly defuse the bomb with glitter and sparkles - it's really when the show jumped the shark for me, but luckily, it was almost over, anyway.

reply

Agreed. They should have just left is as we defeated them with the red dust and little good old fashioned elbow grease. No magic kids needed.

I don't hate it (I mostly liked it) but it built up to an ending, a resolution, that I don't think they could have pulled off within the confines of a tv series with limited budget and with the story as it had been established, though it's no worse than the one in the blockbuster Independence Day. The red dust just didn't work for me but what else could they do? I really liked the cast. Most of the effects were done well and the score is good, too. It's well worth watching. I wish they had excluded the hybrid child, it was not done well at all, becomes integral to the silly conclusion. Then I tried watching the tv series, which starts literally where this mini-series ends. It's not very good at all. I wish I had kept it considering how much it is selling for.

The remake series from several years ago is not much better. Having superior effects is not a substitute for interesting characters and I lost interest early on.
