Yes they made a follow up series to the original five part mini series, and it is probably worth seeing if you like V.It still had Marc Singer, Jane Badler and a few members of the original cast but it's not as good as the original mini series.A lot of the special effects shots of the motherships and shuttles where lifted from the original series and reused again but sometimes in front of different backgrounds. They obviously didn't have the same kind of money to throw at it.It's notable that certain actors such as Michael Ironside are also not in the followup series but there are a couple of good new characters as well as a few small cameos from lesser stars of the original series (Remember Martin). The really annoying thing is that the last episode of this series is inconclusive as the series got canned but hopefully Kenneth Johnson is
rectifying that with a brand new series due soon.
They did a Christmas episode which is awfull, the resistance are singing carols around a piano.

Michael Ironside is in the TV series. He's in most of the episodes. The worst is when they vaporized Michael Wright (Elias)

Here's where I'm confused... There are two entries for two different "V" miniseries:
"V: The Original Mini Series"
and
"V: The Final Battle".

What, if any, is the difference between the two???

The Original Mini-Series says 1983 and 197 minutes. Whereas Final Battle says 1984 and 272 minutes.
Are they two completely different plots? Are they they same thing? Did they show the original in 83 and then add a bunch of scenes for a rebroadcast in '84? Supposing they're the same thing, then what happened? Did they show four parts of the mini-series in '83 and then leave everybody hanging for a year???

reply

this is where the confusion lies............. "V" was a TWO part miniseries aired by nbc in america in 1983. following its huge rating success, an immediate follow-up THREE part mini series was commissioned - called "V" the final battle, which aired in the states a year later in 1984. with me so far? good....... when itv first broadcast "V" in the uk in 1984, the two miniseries' were shown together as a FIVE part mini series, simply called "V" with no reference in the listings to 'the final battle.' recent re-runs on the sci-fi channel uk advertised all 5 parts as "V"-The miniSeries.
so, it appears that viewers in the uk are understandably confused about this.

as regards the dvd releases in the uk, all episodes are available. the original 2-part mini series, "V" is given the dvd title - "V" the original miniseries. the three episodes of the final battle are released and packaged seperately and titled "V" the final battle. the 19 part weekly series which followed is released in another seperate box-set entitled "V the complete Series"

i know from experience how confusing all this is so i hope it helps you in choosing which dvd to buy.

You beauty. I started to watch 'V - The Complete Series' on DVD last week and it was obviously in the middle of a war, not as I remembered with them arriving. So now I can wait and order the other stuff to watch first. Thanks.

Michael Ironside left halfway through the series, the series fizzled out soon afterwards.

Martin was killed off in the pilot episode, but the actor was later brought back as Martin's twin brother Philip. I haven't seen V: The Series since the mid-1990s, but I think Philip started off as an evil twin brother who then pulled rank on his own people and joined the fifth column, effectively making him a clone of Martin.

The series issn't as good as "V" and "V: The Final Battle" but is worth a look if you like the whole "V" universe

As if things were not confusing enough.

They are making a new mini series set out to be released in 2009. It takes place 20-some years after the end of the original 2 part mini series. Apparently, it will not recognise the events of either the final battle, or the weekly series to follow it. Therefore, any characters that were killed after the orginal series could still be alive.

And some of the characters that were killed in The Final Battle as well as The Series include:

John,Steven,Elias,Martin,Eleanor,Brian,Harmony.... and of course any Visitor killed by the red dust

I believe that fell through and Johnson had it published as a novel instead: "V: The Second Generation".
