Resistance is growing weed??

I have watched this countless times since childhood but just noticed something new last night: In a few scenes inside old building that the resistance was first using as their headquarters, you can clearly see a bunch of plants that look suspiciously like marijuana growing under heat lamps! I laughed out loud when I noticed it! I don't know how I didn't notice sooner in all these years. Is that supposed to be what it is, and if so, why would they be growing weed? Was it for Elias to use as trade for favors, like access into the medical building? His father even confronts him about selling drugs so maybe that's why? I can't think of any other plant it could be or why they would be growing something in there, but it seems strange how nobody seems to notice it or care, and it is never mentioned.

I've quite literally just finished watching it all again and I only just noticed that myself. I too just assume it was so it could be traded for favors or possibly for medicinal purposes

I think you nailed it in your post. The resistance, particularly Elias, could use the weed to gain access to places like the medical center or maybe some help on the street. Daniel was more than anxious to get his hands on some!
