'Onward to eternal life'?

Is this the series where the aliens had a slogan something like "onward to eternal life"? This was a sci-fi show on TV that I saw little bits of in 1989. Obviously that's too late for the run of this show, but I was wondering if it could've been reruns of "V." The bits I saw were on TV in the San Francisco Bay area.

I never saw enough of it to know what the plot was like. I've just been curious for years to know what the show's name was. It seemed kind of interesting.

I remember my roommate once referring to the monsters in the show as "talking vacuum cleaners." Did any of the monsters in "V" look like that? I may be remembering his comment incorrectly.

The only time you actually saw something monster like, it was only a part of it. It was a creature who lived in sand and could move very fast through it. It was also used like a guarding dog at one of their working camps, but you saw only the top of it in the sand, so its to little you see in order to correctly judge how they look like.
But the sound of it was kinda like an old broken gasoline engine from a car.

I think your friend is confusing the creatures on "V" with creatures from Dr Who. On that show, i do remember some mechanical creatures with extensions, who does look a lot like the sucking hose from a vacuum cleaner.

persen1,
I bet it was Dr. Who. I notice there was a series of episodes called Remembrance of the Daleks in 1988. I might watch those episodes on Amazon to see if they are what I saw.

I case anybody sees this posting, I thought I should say I found out it's the TV series War of the Worlds, from the 80's. If you look at the page for that series, you'll get the exact wording. I don't think "Onward to eternal life" is exactly right.

The sand creatures are called crivets.
