Well of course, if they were to release the original weekly series on blu-ray, they would first have to go back and do a remastering job on all the episodes, correcting all the problems from the previous DVD release.

and then all the matte lines would be EVEN MORE OBVIOUS then they alread are. i tell ya, all the spaceship/shuttle scenes are just hilarious to see. lol

but yeah the tv series looks terrible on dvd which is odd because both mini-series look pretty damn good. dont know if they remastered them at all but the image is very nice and crisp and clear. but the tv series looks like the old tv shows that currently play on those retro channels.

Yes, the two mini-series WERE remastered for their DVD releases, because they also went in and CROPPED the picture to a widescreen ratio (so, yes, the top and bottom of the picture is actually missing on the DVDs).

As for the TV series, they probably just used 'off-the-shelf' tapes from old transfers. Since the series was so poorly received by critics (and the general public), they probably didn't see any justification for the expense of remastering those 19 episodes.

I paid £20 for V on DVD and that was a black box with a red V on the front and it had all the original V inside. Mini Series, Final Battle, TV Series. Why would I pay stupid amounts of money for V on Blu Ray when I got it for £20 on DVD. There is not enough of a difference in Blu Ray to warrent such hefty price tags.

The show has some great episodes early on, but then runs out of steam. Characters disappear, even Nathan Bates (with the magic wrist thingie forgotten about, though didn't he say it was a bluff?)

Toward the end of the 19 episode run, the new theme and a couple stories showed potential - but it was too late.

I recently sat through the episodes and actually would readily buy a remastered blu-ray. The films only need to be scanned and cleaned, the show was edited on film -- long before the TNG style of "film the footage but edit on video tape" was devised to reduce costs.

If nothing else, for historical reasons, any show made would ideally be digitized and preserved on the best possible medium, as opposed to going soft and fuzzy on degrading video tape or, worse, on film and disintegrating thanks to the vinegar effect.

At least with video tape, there is only one resolution - which modern standards are well in excess of. Which is why films are still kept in cool, dry conditions buried somewhere as opposed to being digitized... but most of those films are 4k or 8k resolution at best, depending on quality used at the time of filming. Shows on 16mm are not HD-capable (but still look excellent, if not soft.)
